I love the first aid kit.  This will be great to keep in a bookbag or travel bag for the kids.  Very creative...I never would have thought of something like that!! Thanks!

I LOVE the first aid kit idea too... No one in my congregation uses Altoids or any other item in those little containers, so I checked eBay.  Sure enough, they have some that are empty and perfect for this craft. But the auctions were for way more tins that I needed and with my church being so small and us usually only having about 20-30 kids the entire week, I googled the "tins" and came up with specialtybottle.com   I ordered enough today for my VBS.  They are plain silver and no need to cover up any writing, so the children will have a clean slate to start their first aid kit.  I bought some Religious stick 'ems for the front of it and plan on putting the treasure verse for that day inside, putting in some bandaids and alcohol wipes, some stickers and maybe even a mint....  I love all the ideas I am getting from this board.. thank you so very much for all your creative minds hard at work for homeschooling moms like me!!!!!!  God Bless, Margaret in NC

Margaret, those are awesome!  I am bookmarking that company.  I can see us using lot's of their stuff.  The prices were very reasonable!  Good job!

Thanks!

I just received my Oriental Trading "Hands On Fun" catalog.  It has lots and lots of ideas for Avalance Ranch projects.   There are mini magnetic horseshoes on page 60 (12 for 8.95, $1.oo cheaper if you get 3 or more sets.)

The back cover has a 4 foot cowboy boot puzzle.  It has 30 pieces.  Each child colors one piece and then put the puzzle together.  $8.95 each puzzle.  Kids can use foam stamps (page 35 - $4.95/doz) or foam shapes (500 shapes for 6.95 self-adhesive on page 20) or stickers (page 13 - $3.95/doz sheets) to decorate their piece.   I haven't looked at each day's theme so do not know if this would work as a first day project to be displayed throughout the week.  Maybe it would be fun to have the crew leaders and station leaders do one at an orientation meeting?

Customer Service #1-800-228-0475 if you need them to send you a catalog.  Make sure you specifically ask for their "Hands On Fun" Creativity for the classroom catalog.

Here is what we are doing if it helps.  I'm not sure about which craft for which day yet, but here it is:

1. we are also doing the chalkboards with the "God Erases my Sins" erasers.

(sorry I don't know how to rotate)

2. We are doing crosses from Michaels (for $1 each) that the kids will glue/modge podge bandanna strips and and then once dried, decorate with stickers and jute cording.

3. We are doing bible bookmarks. (the kids were tired of necklaces and bracelets, same materials, though)

4. Our frame this year is the one from Michaels for $1 and the wood cutouts are from there for .25 each.  I used the jute cording dipped in glue to make the rope trim and letters.  I'll then print the pics in a sepia tome to give an old-timey western look.

Good luck and God Bless-

Amy,

Tell me about your picture frames. I too have bought those from Michaels (and AC Moore has them too). Are you planning on having the children paint them, glue the wooden shape on and apply the jute during the same craft time? Will the children be dipping the jute in the glue? How long of a piece of jute will give you each child? Any details you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

For the pictures, I am planning on using the Wanted Poster Generator that someone shared on another post. So, the picture in the center will be printed on tan paper to look sepia, and will have a wanted poster of each child.

What is the size of the picture frame?  We do group pictures so I am looking for cheap frames that are big enough to hold a picture of about 12 people.  Thanks!

Hey Kate,

The frames that Amy has in her photos hold 4x6 pictures. Michael's has them on sale for $1 each this week. They are a pretty good quality for only a buck.

Check to see if you chuch office gets sent a 20% off your entire VBS purchase coupon from Michael's in the mail. Mine just came this week.
