| Lesson 3 of Balloon Fest has the older elementary small groups painting hot air balloons on each others' faces. I thank God that this Sunday is Mother's Day, so I did not have to schedule that activity for my 4th-6th grade boys (boys are all we have in that age group). I don't even want to think about what would happen if I even SUGGESTED that they attempt to do such a thing with these street-smart urban kids! Since it's Mother's Day, they will do the second small group activity, (which is a game, and they love anything physical) and then make a picture frame as a gift. That I know they will do.Most activities are great in LIO, which is why I love it as a whole so much. But this one activity idea is out of the question for this or any age group. Too much risk of injury or ruining clothes when they get goofy or disruptive. Any face painting should be done by an adult, and only on a younger child who would appreciate it. Thanks for listening! |

| | Did anyone else try this yet? I'd love to know how it went. I have some kids that love to do this -- but more girls. I wonder what 'cool' balloons the boys might have made... Let us know! Your feedback is what we use as we make revisions. God bless!

| | We did this activity but only with one group. All of the kids really enjoyed it (boys and girls) but we did run into a problem with the permanent paint. We didn't think of this ahead of time but were really concerned about it getting on their clothes (not sure why we didn't think of it). They did balloons and then wanted to do more which is a mixed blessing. Perhaps washable markers would have been better?

| | Glad it more or less worked for you, Cindy. I was hoping you would ring in on it. But our boys are usually on the edge of being out of control anyway. What we did was to do the "game" on page two with the verse review - they like more physical activities anyway - and then made picture frames for their moms and grandmoms, which they liked. I had the middle group (which is all girls, go figure), and found I couldn't keep up with the centipede game, so I had to relinquish the position of "it" to one of them sooner than I thought I would! Must be getting old. It was fun. So everything was great, except for the face painting. |

| | I will say that we have a group of boys in grades 3 & 4 that I would NOT have tried that activity with (at least not with paint!). It would have been totally out of control. They LOVED seeing Bob and Bob back again in the DVD segment. Even my staff commented tonight at our staff meeting that they love those two. I'm gonna miss them.

| | Thanks for the helpful feedback. It's good to hear what is and isn't working. We'll try to keep adding alternative ideas here, as well as in product revisions as possible. Blessings!

| | We just finished our last week of Balloon Fest. Our church has one of those large parachutes. I warned my staff in advance and we spent some of our large group time on the front lawn playing games with it. I even tied it into the bible point by saying that it took all of us doing our part (holding different places on the parachute) to make it work and make it great fun. If we were all on one side of the parachute holding it, the parachute doesn't work and capture the air as well. Fun times!

| | That sounds like it was fun, Cindy! My kids discovered when given the little hot air balloons to take home, that if you held them by the gondola end, they make great boppers to beat your friends and siblings with! All quite harmless, though. They all took them home, none left behind at church. |
