| do you do anything "special" during the main service with your preteens? or are they expected to "sit through" big church like everyone else?

| | The preteens (all kids for that matter) are in Sunday School during the church time at our church. The one drawback of this is that we don't ever get an opportunity to worship as a family. |

| | Right now our PreTeens are encouraged to do either... I have about 15-20 that attend Children's Church and another 5-10 who attend adult worship with their folks. I encourage them to make a choice based on where they feel they should be. If they can learn from the adult service then by all mean attend. I also try to encourage the PreTeens to use the Children's Church as an opportunity to serve. On Sunday evenings we have a joint worship time with the Jr. High (7th and 8th Grade) followed by their own small groups. It is in the plans to move to three seperate services at some point in the next 10 years (1st/2nd Grade, 3rd/4th Grade, and a 5th/6th Grade service during the morning worship.) |

| | All our kids K-6 are in the main service for the beginning, and then are dismissed for Living Inside Out! So we have the best of both. |

| | Our environment intentionally designed for sixth graders is a small group that meets at 9:45 on Sunday morning (next year they can choose 9:45 or 11:00 am) and they have a large group atmosphere (The Avenue) that meets once a month. During The Avenue they play games, have sleepovers, etc. to prepare them for youth group. During small group they do studies, ask questions and do life together. This year it was a group of boys mostly and it is neat to watch how they have all bonded. This group of sixth graders is definitely too old for "children's church" and they aren't ready for youth group. |

| | We have all of our kids 1st-6th grade start out in church with their families. I love that our kids are able to worship with their parents and are learning from an early age what it means to worship through song! After music and announcements, the kids are dismissed to their classes. Our 5th and 6th grade kids join the 1st-4th graders during 1st service and then during 2nd service we offer "Dive Deep", a Sunday school class just for our 5th and 6th graders. |

| | We do "Big Church Sunday" the last Sunday of the month for kids grades 1-5...this is where the kids join their families in the adult service for a time of worship together. The other Sundays of the month they are in KidzChurch during the adult service, but we wanted to have an opportunity for families to worship together hence the "Big Church Sunday". We hope to move this to the 5th Sunday of each Quarter in the Fall, but don't want to abandon it altogether. Our KidzChurch only goes up to Grade 5 so our Middle Schoolers are out in adult service every Sunday. We do use them to serve in Children's Ministry (those who want to do so) by plugging them in to serve in the Nursery or Preschool 1-2 times a month, this really helps to give them an identity & teaches them the principles of serving. Be Blessed! - Candy |
