For all who are just starting a Preteen 56 class, I want to encourage you to not give up!  Our class is in it's 3rd year and it is so vital to our ministry.  At the beginning, of course the 5th graders were completely excited, but the 6th graders wanted to be in middle school.  After 3 years, they embrace the fact that they have their own classroom.  While they believe that they are oh so mature, don't forget that they still love to play!  We play a lot of games built around the lesson and I try to let them lead the games as much as possible.  It is a great age to watch them grow and I'm excited for all who are diving into the world just for preteens!

We're praying for you!

Your post is so encouraging! We are kicking off our Club 56 on January and I got a lot of flack from our 6th grade teachers. They told me that the 6th graders wouldn't come because they didn't want to be with the 5th graders.

That really threw me!  I shared with the teachers that I had talked with our 6th graders before going ahead with the idea.  The sixth graders I talked to were so excited that we would be offering something that was their very own that when I asked if they had any problem sharing Club56 with the 5th graders they gave me a puzzled look. Like why wouldn't we?

Then the 6th grade teachers shared that they hadn't actually talked to any of the 6th graders.  It became pretty obvious that they were sharing their personal bias.  I asked them to simply give the idea a chance & I think they decided that they were "out numbered" so they've been pretty quiet, but willing to wait and see.

We've been having weekly Club56 get togethers between our 2 SS hours to plan, get to know one another and talk about what the kids want their Club56 to be.  I'm getting an equal number of 5th and 6th graders attending.

Pray that our 6th grade teachers will not only give Club 56 the benefit of the doubt but join in on the fun come January!.
