| | I completely agree with you on the need to make sure to incorporate play time in small group if you have kids as young as you do in your group. (Usually when we write material for the preschool age group it is for a little older children, and while 4-5 year olds definitely learns through play as well, they tend to have longer attention spans and want to interact in group settings more than the younger kids.) Two year olds learn through "play" because they are exploring their world and tend to play alongside friends more than interact with them so they need more one-on-one time with teachers than older children do. If you're looking for a good resource on teaching younger children, I would look up a book called: Your Child At Play: Two to Three Years. (There are several books in this series for other age groups as well.) I found this to be a really valuable resource when I was teaching preschool to help me recognize how children are learning and what they are capable of. | | I just wanted to share that the tambourines from the Music Camp module are great! For being a "toy" instrument, they make a terriffic sound, seem to be durable, and the kids love them! Sometimes the Memory Maker is not such a hit (like the erasable boards), but this one is! I will probably be ordering several just to use during praise time long after Music Camp is done. I also had a great time this Sunday with lesson 2 for the middle age group. We made the drums out of large food containers from the local restaurant supply store (99 cents each), decorating them with permanent markers and foam stickers. The kids loved them too! Banging on plastic buckets gave a "Stomp" or street musician feel to the activity. And being in an urban church, that was a plus. |

| | Hey, it's me again. A scheduling note - Since I'm a Group groupie at heart, we just got finished with Avalanche Ranch, and had a great time!!! However, as a user of LIO from the start, I'm just getting ready to do Storm Chasers. And what do I find as lesson 2? Naaman! And with the exact (ok, + pudding, but essentially the same) presentation method as in VBS! I guess the writing teams were not looking at the same calendar.  We've decided to skip the lesson entirely, as the other four in the module are pretty heavy duty stuff as it is, and I've got a vacation week coming up. |

| | Just wanted to comment on the video clip for lesson 3 of In the DogHouse. I had not had the chance to preview the clip before showing it to the kids (that's not a good thing to do normally, I know), and we were WOWed to say the least! My daughter, who is an art teacher, was thrilled with the presentation of the sand painter, and the kids were enthralled with it. Only the preschoolers started to fidget toward the end. And the kids seemed to remember the main points of the story that they heard! Great job! This makes me even sadder to note that next Sunday is our last Living Inside Out session, having used all 12 modules. It's been great - wish it wasn't over. |

| | Thanks, Debby. I've had fun noticing the 'sand painting' appear in some commercials since we did that. Still working on possible solutions for getting Living Inside Out back into production, but nothing approved yet. God bless you and your ministry.
