Rewarding every effort is precisely what has created a generation of 20 somethings who expect that everywhere. Excellence should be rewarded and praised. Effort should be encouraged, but it's not the same as achieving. And frankly, it degrades the kids who do work hard and artificially inflates those who don't.

Sorry, I was rereading what you wrote and I noticed that I never said to reward every effort. In fact, I said that rewarding was a non-issue. However, you and I both stated that effort should be encouraged.

I didn't think I would mess up my first post so badly. I'll try to explain myself better next time.

Hi Reelverse.com!

No need to apologize... and thanks for following up to clarify your reply!

Words of encouragement that describe a positive or helpful action or behavior are music to a child's ear. "Mary, thank you for picking up the crayons without being asked!"  "Jason, thank you for holding the door open for our class."  Kind words of appreciation are not necessarily rewards, they are simply statements of fact!
