We are a VERY small church currently (we just started the church in October, and run a VERY small amount of people -- avg 20).  So I can't go to huge expense on the rooms.  We are currently only going to "do up" one of the rooms, as for the time being we only need 1 room for the amount of kids we have.  The theme of the room (which will be the children's church room eventually) is Power House.  I've already made up a logo and it has the atom symbol on it.  I would like to make a sign that says something like "Higher Power at Work" to go on the wall.  I'm looking for any other ideas to make this a NICE KIDS room.... without overdoing the budget.  (Eventually I will have 2-3 sunday school rooms.. solar room (Power in the Son), Hydro room (Power in Living Water), to tie in with the Power House theme).

Paint!  A fresh coat of a vibrant color on the walls is the biggest bang for your buck! Add your logo on one wall.

Consider adding a pair of corrogated tin sheets running floor to ceiling, one on each side of your logo OR on another wall for a cool magnetic bulletin board.  Our 4th grade teachers did a magnet wall and took photos of each child in the class in crazy poses, printed them on photo paper, cut them out, laminated them and added a magnet to the back. The children loved moving themselves, and their classmates all around the board in different poses. They provided large magnetic letters so the children could add messages to the board.

And check out Powerlab VBS decorating spaces DVD and the decorating suggestions in the Powerlab catalog for inspiration.

I was going to suggest the same thing as Lisa. The decorations for the Power Lab field test were amazing! You could use some of the same ideas to fit your theme exactly. Here's where you can get the DVD. Have fun! And send us some photos to post at childrensministry.com when you're done for all to see!

Thanks guys!  I will check into this.  One question.  Is this mainly a chemistry type theme?

Nope, it's not a chemistry theme...

I was part of the field test and when I first saw we were doing a Science theme this liberal arts major was a tad intimidated! Then I began to see it's is really about "The Power of God" and the wonders of his creation than about a specific area of Science.  Take a look at the Powerlab website to get a flavor for the theme and daily Bible Points. www.groupvbs.com/powerlab
