| | It's January and bookstore will be hosting VBS Preview events all over the country January through March! Does your VBS leadership team attend these events before making VBS curriculum decisions? If so, what do you like about VBS Bookstore Preview Events? What would make them even better????? If not, you are missing out on an awesome tool for selecting the right VBS curriculum for your church! This is why I LOVE VBS Bookstore Preview Events!!!! ~Publishers representatives do a live presentation on the features of their curriculum. ~Publishers' representatives are on hand to answer your questions. ~Sample starter kits and curriculum materials are on display so you can see what's available before making a purchase. ~Sample the crafts, music and DVD's for each curriculum right there in the store. ~Many bookstores offer give aways, prizes and discounts on VBS curriculum during the event. ~Network with other VBS Directors in your area!!!

| Lisa, I also love previews! Some are small and intimate and others have hundreds of churches in attendance! It's a great way to network with other churches as well.

| | My first Bookstore Preview was the year Group came out with Holyword. Cindy Hansen was the Group presenter. Her energy and enthusiasm was so contagious!!! I liked the theme, the music, the Bible Points AND the multi-age grouping which was way radical back then. When she let us make the super balls by filling the mold with power and soaking it in water, I was SOLD on Group. And as they say, the rest is history! AND even cooler... the incrediball has made a comeback for Powerlab 2008. I can't wait to see them bouncing off the walls... literally!

| | If for no other reason than the discounts and freebies -- Bookstore previews are worth the trip. If you already know what you want to use -- then go -- you'll save money with the discounts that the bookstores offer (call ahead to make sure they are offering a discount). Think if you save 20% off your total VBS order -- that is HUGE!! You could reach 20% more kids for the same price!! I also see things that I can use for other events at our church -- don't limit your brain to thinking just VBS -- maybe there is a summer camp that you could use one of the curriculums for -- or a Wednesday night program. Bethlehem Village is a great Advent event. Make sure that you call ahead to see which companies are going to send representatives. Sometimes they even have snacks or refreshments! Deborah in Texas |

There are indeed many reasons to attend VBS bookstore previews.
Discounts on orders placed that day and freebies
But primarily I attend because I want to really see it and experience it before spending that kind of money.
If you can convince a small group of decision makers and VBS vols from your church take them and then do lunch to review and build on the excitement of the day. Its a good pretraining event. Also builds excitement if a VBS party is planned in your area.
Also - it helps out your local Christian bookstore and they need the business. If you want Christian bookstores in your area you need to be solid customers.
I find that having a good connection with them and letting them know what material I am using for VBS saves me shipping costs for those last minute needs. If they have the student materials on hand I can see what the numbers look like and get the extras I need without panic.
