I just participated in a Game Night with others around my age. It was a great success. We played Catch Phrase. Honestly, though, any group game, board game...can be such a great platform for hanging out and getting to know others. Our game night is held once a month, and people take turns "hosting." People who come bring their favorite games. Have others hosted things like this? And...are there other "comfortable" settings that allow sharing?

I would be interested to know what games kids play between the ages of 10 and 18. I enjoy board games such as Settlers of Catan, Smugglers of the Galaxy, Speed Circuit, Elfenland.  I am always trying to promote new games that involve the whole family.

I've held many game nights--they're a wonderful way to open doors in a non-threatening way. One relatively new game that's a lot of fun is Wise and Otherwise. This is kind of a spin on the game Dictionary. In Wise and Otherwise, you are asked to finish a saying from around the world and then guess which completion is the real one. You get some very interesting discussions around these proverbs!

I've been to, and hosted, game nights before.  For a large group of people, we've played the electronic Catch Phrase (which also comes in a junior version for kids).  We would sit in a large circle, with the teams being every other person (one to give clues, one to judge).  It was always great fun.  Electronic Taboo works well in larger groups, as well.

There is also the line of Scene It games.  Since some of the card questions can be hard, when we had a varied audience, we just did the DVD questions.  The game comes in all different versions (Disney, Movies, TV, etc.) so would be good for a neighborhood game night that included children.

We've had several annual game nights with our mid-week children's program. The children are invited to bring along a board game and their whole family to Family Game night. We set up lots of tables in the fellowship hall. It's always a lot of fun - people move from table to table, sharing games and talking a LOT! It's a wonderful, fun evening that the kids and adults all enjoy!

A game that I find works really well in group settings is Jenga.  The pace of play is pretty quick and there isn't a min or max on the number of players.

We do game nights pretty consistently and some games that tend to be winners are Balderdash, Risk (which takes forever, but the kids like it and it gives a small group of kids time to get to know each other), Catchphrase (which was already stated) and Guesstures.  Scattergories is fun as well as Apples to Apples. Apples to Apples is a great get-to-know-you game. There's a Bible versions of some of those games, but I'm not sure of the names. Hope this helps.
