I'm going to be away Sunday after next and I have asked another Children's Ministry worker to lead the Childrens' Message. I need recommendations for good books and resources for quality Children's Messages.  I know www.childrensministry.com is a great resource, but I want to offer her even more sources with great ideas!!!

I like things much more interactive, but www.sermons4kids.com is a great jumping off point.  (Plus he has such beautiful artwork!)

We also like to look at the Movie Clips for Kids books from Group. http://store.grouppublishing.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?item=15867&section=14408

(These are especially great if they go along with the sermon for the week.)

We use bibleactivities.com a lot, but you have to have a membership.  It is pretty cheap (I think it is $50 for a year membership).  I like it because it has a snack, craft, bible story and a puzzle or coloring page for most bible stories.

Hi Peggy,

I end up modifying everything to give it that R.E.A.L. flair, too.  I talked with someone at Group about writing a book that has inclusive Children's Message ideas.  Maybe, that will happen in the next year or so!  (Maybe you should help write it!!!!)

That would be so cool, but it's always about TIME, isn't it?  Ugh.  If I could just have about 2 more days each week, that would be great.

Thanks, I will certainly check them out.... I used to get LOGOS worship sheets for children and they sent me a Children's Message suggestion for each Sunday... I had to really modify anything I used, but they were always good to get me started.

Would love even more website recommendations!

Lisa - I don't use websites - I use our SS curriculum. I usually tell the story again or look for a point of connection between the story and what the sermon will focus on. So many children do not come for SS that I want to encourage more Bible ed with them and the families. This is also a good way to use the few extra sheets from SS cl - I pass those out to children who did not attend SS. If I am in trouble or want it for someone else - I find the sermon topic (we use the Lectionary) and look in the Humongous book of Children's Messages from Group or the series of Children's Message books that are Lectionary based also from Group.

Thanks for your resource suggestions!  My volunteer prepared a wonderful children's message on the Lost Sheep and was really excited about doing her first Children's Message. She got inspiration for the idea from an online search and the Bible Big Book on the The Good Shepherd and the Lost Sheep.

She was so psyched!  Unfortunately for the children and my wonderful volunteer, last Sunday services were cancelled due to weather!

Not to worry, she will have another opportunity to do her message on a Sunday in February. AND thanks to your suggestions, she had lots of great resources to help her plan!
