I had our church secretary order me some of the journals for Friends for my kids and she told me that we wouldn't be getting friends for the summer months.   She said she was told that Friends is only a 3 quarter curriculum.  Why is that and what are the recommendations for the summer months.  We are doing a VBS already.  We already to Children's church so not sure what I should plan for the kids for the summer.

Thanks!!

Thanks for your question, and I apologize this was not clear to you sooner!

FaithWeaver Friends has always been a three-quarter curriculum. When we first launched this program in 2000, we had done extensive research with churches about their needs for a midweek or club program. Most told us that they stopped meeting for the summer or did something different and therefore had no use for a summer quarter of Friends. (And since then, others have told us they are able to stretch the three quarters to cover most of their needs as they start a little late or take a few weeks off here and there).

But we know there are still churches that would love to use Friends all year long! KidsOwn Worship and Vacation Bible School are two of the alternatives we suggest for the summer. Two other alternatives for you for the summer months are Group's Living Inside Out (www.GroupsLivingInsideOut.com) and Group's Bible Blitz (www.HandsOnBible.com/Blitz). You can check out samples of either or both programs. And our curriculum consultants (1-800-526-0404 in the US) would be happy to answer any more of your questions about these and other options.

Let me know, too, if you have more questions or would like more ideas. Or if I can be of service in any other way. God bless you and your ministry!

Thanks, Deb.  I went ahead and had our church secretary order Bible Blitz Summer 2007.  I am so excited to start this curriculum!!  I can only hope that the kids get as excited about this Bible study as I am!! LOL

Hi All

I just wanted to add what we have planed for the summer.

First off I gave my center leaders the summer to refresh themselves with bible study, some are still going to help once a month for the summer.

I gave my circle leaders the summer off also. I do have one that is staying with me for the summer too.

I have some new people that will be helping this summer.

I have decided that the kids love to go outside so we are having a Friends Place (that's what we call friends) Summer Event "Kickball"

the Apostles vs the Deciples. I try to keep some of the Friends Place by starting with worship, a circle of prayer and a bible point from previous lessons. We then talk about how we can apply this point to our Kickball game.

We are having so much fun, It gives the kids a chance to get out and still receive something from God. We ended our quarter with a party.

We post our score in the bulletin and Pastor announces it. So far the Deciples are ahead by two games.

Have fun with your children.

We had 5 kids saved through out the season. We only started in Feb 07

I love this program and can't wait for September.

God Bless

Evelyn

I would LOVE to see a list gathered of what churches do during the summer.  We too use Friends and need something to cover the summer.  We already use FW and Kids Own Worship for the reason that they fit together so nicely.

I had to write my own curriculum last year, but was hoping to find someone with older FaithWeaver Friends sets for re-use or sale. Alas, I don't see any here. We sure would love to see it go into four quarters.

Unfortunately, we don't currently have plans to take FaithWeaver Friends to four quarters. Although we do get requests to do so, the demand for Summer midweek is actually fairly low due to all the VBS programs that are running during the Summer. But, I would like to recommend a few of our other Group resources for your Summer quarter:

1. Living Inside Out - We have three modules for Summer, each that last 4 weeks. We sell the modules as a set for $299.99 or individual modules for $109.99 each. This is a large group/small group program, and is theme based. This is a multi-age program for preschool - elementary. Very fun!! http://store.grouppublishing.com/OA_HTML/gpCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=14182

2. Bible Blitz - This is another large group/small group formatted program. Blitz works great as a midweek and as a children's church program. The design of this program is so that it fits anytime during the week. This is for elementary age children, and comes in two very affordable quarterly kits. You can pick from a kit that includes a Hands-On Bible softcover, or a kit without. The price for the kit with a Bible is $74.99 (starter kit), and the price without a Bible is $59.99 (basics kit). The reason for including a Bible in the kit is because Blitz uses the Bible as the student book. You don't have to use the Hands-On Bible, but it is the best fit for kids this age. http://store.grouppublishing.com/OA_HTML/gpCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=18482

3. KidsOwn Worship - If you like the scope & sequence used for FaithWeaver Friends and/or FaithWeaver Sunday School, KidsOwn Worship will suit you. KidsOwn Worship follows the same scope & sequencs as Friends and FaithWeaver. It is the FaithWeaver children's church program, and works well as a midweek. It is a large group/small group format, and fits kids preschool-elementary. We have one quarterly kit for KidsOwn that is $108.99 and includes everything you need: Leader Guide, Sing-Along Songs DVD, DVD discussion starter video, music CD, hands-on point makers (gizmos), and a preschool skit book. The leader guide includes activities that work for multi-age groups (preschoolers & elementary kids together), as well as activities if you want to separate your preschoolers from your elementary age kids. It's up to you! http://store.grouppublishing.com/OA_HTML/gpCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=18382

4. Don't forget about our AWESOME VBS programs: Power Lab & HolyLand Adventure. Both are great ways to continue midweek throughout the week. If your church isn't doing VBS, or isn't using one of Group's VBS programs, these would be great choices. You could split the 5 week VBS over the course of the summer at midweek. FaithWeaver Friends was designed after our Easy VBS program, so Power Lab has Discovery Centers just like FaithWeaver Friends! Check it out!! http://store.grouppublishing.com/OA_HTML/gpCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=10623
