So... the last youth group I was in was just using our meetings for social interaction with the kids they grew up with and didn't bother with anyone else. They had no Sunday School on Sunday morning so we had to have the Youth Group night a little deeper. I BENT OVER BACKWARDS for them but I had no parental support, the church was 45 min away from me so I couldn't do anything in the community, and the kids absolutely hated me, my ministry, the Bible, prayer, and worship. Is there anything I forgot? Oh, yeah, lol... they told me they wanted to sing so I brought my guitar and even had them pick worship songs. Then I played and sang for them... no, they didn't enter in... they barely even listened. They passed notes and whispered and all kinds of bad things. Anyway, I got out of there but now I feel useless... a youth leader without a youth group... Does anyone have any advice?

In Christ's Service,

JP

Don't give up. It was just a bad fit. Find somewhere that needs you for who you are - God will provide!

Don't dwell on this situation. Find a positive and use it in your next interview.

God bless you...Theresa

Don't underestimate the work you did with these kids.  You never know when something you said might have made a difference in a childs life.  Remember some water, some sow but God brings the increase!!  You may not see the fruit right now but the seed was sown!

God Bless,

I agree with Puppetlady.  You probably did more there than you realize.  Seriously.  The fact that you were willing to spend time with them made a difference in at least one of their lives.  I promise you that.  I have been in similar situations where I felt useless.  Occasionally I will see a student from a former church where I served.  They usually say that they miss me and miss spending time with me.  I would have never guessed that they would miss me when I left. I felt that they could care less.  Youth are deeper than we give them credit for.  They may put on a front, but they are grateful that you are there for them.  More than any sermon, song, or devotion that you share with them, they will always remember that you were there.  Be encouraged!  God doesn't waste time or service in Kingdom!  You made a bigger difference than you think!

I recently had to shut down our evening youth group due to lack of participation.  I can't tell you how sad this makes me.  We are victims of family priorities shifting.

If misery loves company then move on over.  Is there room on this bench?

The written word is all that stands between memory and oblivion. Without books as our anchors, we are cast adrift, neither teaching nor learning. They are windows on the past, mirrors on the present, and prisms reflecting all possible futures. Books are lighthouses erected in the dark sea of time.--Gargoyles
