| I teach 4th thru 6th grade on Wednesday nights. We are trying to come up with a decorating scheme for the classroom that is specific to that age group. Right now it has off white walls and beige carpet! Super Boring!! I have a mix of boys and girls and as you can imagine, they can't seem to come together on any idea. Anyone have any ideas that would suit both?? The boys want sports and the girls want anything BUT sports. Thanks! |

| | Here are a few guidelines from an article from CMMag: "The Preteen Zone": • Unique Environment—“Preteens are just beginning to grasp the concept of their identity and they like it! It’s important to them to have things that tell them who they are,” advises Snow. “Creating a unique environment that screams PRETEEN is important because it allows them to worship and learn about God in a place that’s their own.”
What screams “preteen”? Bright colors, playfulness, edgy images, skateboards, loud music, cool lighting, unexpected decorations such as garage-sale retro lamps or posters. If you’re not sure what screams “preteen,” ask. Your preteens will definitely have opinions. There are more ideas in The Preteen Launchables available from Group.

| | Hey, here's another idea that's cost-effective and cool. Go to yard sales, thrift stores, get donations of anything that's the same. For example, get 20 bicycle tires, 100 used CDs, 15 lampshades, or 100 shoes. Then spray paint them and mount all the like things on the same wall. One wall of tires, another wall of shoes, etc. It's wild! It looks like art! It's intriguing and gender-free! And it's cheap! |

| | Hi Blessed Mom, I like your user name. I, too, am a blessed mom and a preteen ministry leader. How did you decide to decorate your preteens' room? I would like any additional decorating ideas you may have. I want to create a space that's just for them, a place where they want to be. Thank you. Blessings, Ms. Mary

| | Our preteens like wide open spaces*** and bright colors on the walls. (Corals, Sky blue, lime green) They also like to have plenty of carpeted floor space for high energy games. We added white cabinets to store all the materials and books. That way we don't have to worry about where the koosh balls are going to land... All breakables can be easily put out of sight. We installed a large whiteboard on one wall for prayer request. Another on an adjacent wall for use during lessons. The room is carpeted and the children are comfortable sprawling out on their Jabber Mats (Group) in their small groups for Bible study. ***Sunday mornings, the teacher prefer to use Tables and Chairs, but we take out all the chairs and tables for Club 56 (Preteen Bible study.)
