| Hi all you faithful servants of the Lord! I would love to have your input on the following questions: 1. Do you offer anything for children on Wednesday night (or midweek)? If so what and to what ages? If not, why? 2. Does your church offer anything for adults midweek? 3. What is your purpose of the midweek touch? outreach, discipleship, childcare? 4. What time do you start and end? 5. What do you think makes your program a win? or not so good? I really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks! Peace, Bonnie

| 1. Do you offer anything for children on Wednesday night (or midweek)? If so what and to what ages? If not, why? We do have a small group (discipleship-purposed) mid-week program. We use Group's "Living Inside Out" as our frame. We also have a free Childcare ministry that is open each evening from 6 to 9. We use Hands-On-Bible for that group. 2. Does your church offer anything for adults midweek? All sorts of season-grouped or affinity-grouped ministries, such as Women's Bible Study, Singles group, Young marrieds, etc. 3. What is your purpose of the midweek touch? outreach, discipleship, childcare? Our midweek children's program is Discipleship driven, our Childcare Ministry is focused on fellowship and growth. 4. What time do you start and end? Midweek (Wednesday night program) we start at 7:00, end at 8:30 5. What do you think makes your program a win? or not so good? Small groups (5 kids, one leader). Don't invite your friends: bring them on Saturday or Sunday. It really makes it easy for the group to gel and for the leaders to build significant relationships with his or her kids. HTH

What do you think makes your program a win? or not so good - Large group/small group Age appropriate programs Large Group and Small Group. Fun activity based / interest driven electives during the summer.

| We've let Wednesday evenings go. Families perceived it as "one more thing" and leadership realized that that our growing small group ministry was competing with it.
Instead we are moving toward a once-a-month shared family experience that we are calling Home Team. 45 of a shared experience with music, drama, video, games, and high interaction between families. The following three weeks we'll make follow up devotions, with family challenges, suggested scripture reading, etc. available to families using podcasting (for free) and CD's at a minimal price.
Our experience was that it didn't matter what program we used-- FW Friends, our own written materials, musical rehearsals, etc-- that we couldn't make one more night of dropping off kids (Parent-as-taxis) attractive to families.
That my own, non-scientific, anecdotally evidence. God's blessings no matter which way you go.

| We do have Wednesday night services for adults and kids with the purpose of discipleship. We are currently having a problem with having teachers frequently call at the last minute to say they can't be there for one reason or another(which means that either me or my husband end up doing the class). I am having to rethink our wednesday night setup. currently we have devided cl from ages 3-12, but we might have to combine these ages to cut down on the number of teacher needed and then have extra teachers as backup. My husband and I already do children's church for 2 services on Sunday am. We don't have a Sunday PM service so Wednesday night is the only service we have to "sit and soak." For the past month at least one teach-sometimes more-has been out. Any suggestions on how to handle this situation would be welcome. We love our kids and want them to have the best ministry possible.

| | We too are facing similar issues. I just recently started heading up Children's Ministries at our church. I now know that I am losing my staff of 6 school age leaders for one reason or another. I'm not sure what to do. More and more we are competing with sports, schools, piano lessons, etc. Where is the line drawn? I love the family interaction idea listed above. Our whole church is in the midst of changing the way we do things. I'm wondering if this is the time to cancel, change or do as is (which isn't quality).

| | We Currently have Childrens Ministry Small Groups on Tuesday nights. We have adult small groups through out the week but we promoted to our families to have or attend small groups on tuesday nights. we have childcare for nursery- 3 years olds. For pre-k through 5th we have a meal together, game time, worship, review the message from sunday then break up into small groups pre-k-1st, 2nd & 3rd, and 4th & 5th. Our middle school ministry leader also holds his MS service on that night as well. So parents will have one stop durring the week for church and 4 other nights for sports, school or other events. It seems to be working out good. It is more dicipleship focused but we do have our kids brining friends. In some cases we have families that start comming to church through our adult small groups and tuesday night kids programs. We run our event from 6:30- 9:00 but we do have some kids that arrive right at 6. Our biggest issue is developing a team for Tuesdays night as we promote all or team members to be apart of a small group, and most of our leaders also have children. I think i answered all the questions. I hope this helps. |
