I've never been excited about the banners, and have needed one that made a bigger impact.  I buy a big (3 yards long)piece of canvas from Wal-Mart, hem a seem on top and bottom to run a rope through and paint my own design on it using an overhead projector.  It takes some time, but they make such a big impact it's worth the extra effort.  I don't think I've taken any pictures of them to show you, but basically I come up with a general idea and then play with different clip art to see what I can squish on.  I use regular craft paint and spray a light coat of clear spray over it to protect it.  You should try it!  It's not too difficult!

Pam, I would love to see your banners. If you plan to make one for PL please take a photo and post it. I am also creating a Groupie Photo Board for us to share our creations.

I know you said you spray a clear coat over it to protect it...a clear coat of what?  And does this keep the colors from running if it were to rain on it?

We use spray acrylic crystal clear in a spray paint can.  Actually I don't even think I need to do that.  I live in Washington where it rains a lot and we've never had one run.  The craft paint I use is acrylic also and once it's dry you'd have to really rub hard to get it to move, unless you were to layer it really thick, or don't use a tectured fabric surface it can soak into.

I usually just hang it up in my basement and play with the overhead projector to get what scene I want.  Last year we used the purple shaded mountain as our background.  I added the AR logo and a silhouette of running horses around the edges.  I then printed off what I wanted to say on word with the font outlined only, I'm not sure what that's called.

They have always turned great and are worth the effort and money spent.  It costs about $20 to make.  I'll get a picture this year and make sure to share.  I probably won't realistically get it done before the end of May, since our VBS isn't until July, but I hope this might help to get you thinking. If I could do it, so can you!

Thanks so much!

We are so excited about how we are going to use the banners.  We will be promoting our PL in the community 4th of July parade.

We are going to have a mad scientist drum & bugle corp. with the banner in front walked by a color guard.  It's going to be pretty silly.  We will have a few kids with kazoos from tne church dressed up as scientists to accompany the corp.  It should be quite a sight.

The lady who is heading up our decorations came up with the idea and I thought it was brilliant.

We are so excited about VBS 2008!

I found one at www.orientaltrading.com i typed in science and found a banner that was like 8.95.  It appeared to have allot more room to announce your date.
