| Hi all,
I'll be holding a children's lock-in (sleepover retreat at church) with the theme: Missions. We call it the "M&M Lock-In" because it's done in Missions Month (hence, M&M). Anyway, I really want to get the kids engaged in hands-on crafts/games/activities/projects instead of just listening to a missions sermon. What are some things you have done or heard of??
Please share your fresh and creative ideas - (my creative juices are running low...)

| | What about?? Putting together school kits - (for local Elementary school to have on hand for students in need.) If you have transportation letting the youth shop in teams for the supplies at the local Walmart. Highlighting Bibles for a Mission trip - Group send out a link to a site that gave instructions for highlighting salvation scriptures passages. www.bibleoutreach.org

| | We made fleece blankets last year that we delivered to the police department to be given out to victims as needed. You take 2 pieces of fleece and cut the edges into strips. Then you tie the strips together. Easy and fun! Even making stained glass ornaments to take to the nursing home in your area would be fun. |

| | In addition to the GREAT ideas above, what about trying out food from the different regions where your church has missionaries? Spicy central American food, exotic fruits from Africa, etc. Isn't there also an M&M prayer where the kids take a handful of M&Ms and then pray for different things based on the colors? Seems to me we did that years ago at VBS, but I don't remember what the colors indicated. Anyone else remember that? OK, found this version out there and thought it was great. | | Google M&M Prayers for more details on that idea. How about collecting Summer toys to give to local Salvation Army to distribute? Is there a Women's Shelter nearby that you can donate to? The kids in the shelter are living a very confusing and unsettled life, they can use special treats. Maybe a small bag of toys, a pocket bible, coupons for ice cream at Dairy Queen and taco at Taco John's? Even craft supplies to give them something to do. Have you older kids create a book of hope that has bible verses that they find on their own. They kids can then make and decorate book markers with these verses to be sent to any missionary project you choose.

| | Great Ideas, Adrianne! Children at homeless shelters are always in need of underwear. It's one thing that's not reusable. We did an "Undercover Underwear drive" with the kids a few years ago. We asked children to bring in new pairs of underwear in their size. That way we got a wide assortment of sizes. It was a huge success!
