Was anyone able to find large wooden barrels (around 3') last year for Avalanche Ranch? The reason I'm putting this in the "Off Topic" section is that although we used AR last year, we're not needing barrels for vbs. My son wants one for a gallery show he's involved with. We're in Los Angeles. Thanks!

Hi,
I think most of us made them last year out of contact paper and trash cans. I would look in antique shops in mainly rural areas. I got a lot of western stuff at some of the places in Norco Ca where people still ride horses to the store. I don't know where in LA you live but Norco is near Corona off the 91 and the 15.

Good Luck

We are in West L.A., but that's a good idea. Thanks!

For AR, we used large trash cans....I am sure they have a name, but I am not sure what it is! They have a metal strip at the top and bottom and are a HEAVY cardboard. Anyway, we covered them w/ woodgrain look contact paper we got at the $$ Store (w/ "slats" going vertically) and added a black band around the middle...I added a sign "Water Yer Horses" and Voila! A Barrel! Kimberly

Ask your local factory for those types of barrels--the ones with the metal strips and made of heavy cardboard.  They are used to transport metal wire to most factories, they have a name but it's escaping me at the moment.  Anyway, they throw them away, so if you ask they may let you have them.
