This will be our 7th year using Group's VBS. I was just looking through the Sonic Sing & Play Leader Manual and I don't see a character this year. Is this something they removed or am I just missing it?

You must just be missing it.  Wilma is the character, she is a wanna be scientist!

I'm missing it too and I am starting to worry it is because I have the Catholic version...

We have some silly thing about reading letters from kids in Haiti to the kids...

Here's what we just found - we need to go to harcourtreligion.com/vbs to download the wilma scripts.

I'm not sure about the Haitian thing either, especially as it doesn't seem to relate to the soccer ball.  I'd love to hear what other catholic vbs'ers are doing.

The "Connecting Kids to Justice" feature is specific to the Catholic version of the program. Here is the description of it from Harcourt:

"Through a common vision, Harcourt Religion Publishers has partnered
with Catholic Relief Services to develop a feature that reaches out
to the kids at your VBS — to raise awareness and apply the principles of Catholic social teaching to their lives and the lives of others. Through the Connecting Kids to Justice feature at Power Lab Catholic VBS, kids will learn to appreciate and respect their own human dignity and to experience and celebrate their solidarity with all people everywhere.

This year at Power Lab Catholic VBS, Connecting Kids to Justice will focus on the Catholic social teaching principle of Life & Dignity of the Human Person by highlighting Catholic Relief Services’ work with the people of Haiti."

Basically, this segment highlights a principle of Catholic social teaching through a partnership with Catholic Relief Services. I am very excited about the inclusion of this segment, because we also do a teaching unit from CRS during Lent and this will reinforce many of the things we studied. It also will help kids relate to Operation Kid to Kid.

We are going to change the area of interest from Haiti to Guatemala.  I will have to come up with the information myself, but keep it in the same daily format as CRS is using.  The reason for Guatemala is our church has an "adopted" catholic church in Guatemala and that is where we are sending our go balls.  Members of our mission ministry will deliver the go balls in July of this year so the kids there will have them soon after our vbs.  I'm hoping pictures will be taken so our kids can see their go balls in action.

Also, we are providing 34 go balls - one for each crew.  We have added a "sponsor a go ball" on our registation form for vbs.  I'm hoping to get 50 or more go balls from registration!  The balls will be prayed over during our Thursday night performance and slide show.  (in addition to the kids praying over them in vbs)

We are adding Bible buddy trading cards this year and one of the trading cards that the kids may earn is a go ball trading card - for those who sponsor a go ball.  (not to worry if they don't sponsor a ball- there will be lots of cards available!!!)
