Hi everyone,

We're starting a new monthly event called "Servant Saturday" here in our youth ministry. The goal is to choose a different service opportunity each month where youth can actively participate in helping others in Christ's name. We had our first Servant Saturday last month, and we went to a shut-in member of our congregation to help her with some cleaning around her house. I really want to get the youth out into the community as well as serve the congregation. We are scheduled to go to a local homeless shelter in June.

Does anyone have any creative ideas for servant events that you've done? Preferably they would be able to happen on a Saturday morning in 3-4 hours. I'd love to hear any and all ideas!

In Christ,

Celeste

I try to find service activities as well for my youth group and I have found that soup kitchens, the salvation army, and other community groups are always very welcoming to youth groups helping out. I also try to get a church list from people who could use some simple chores done around their house or spend a Saturday cleaning up the church, painting, maintenance etc... for the church.

Many large cities have food packaging centers where you can not only donate to the center but actually prepare boxes of food for the needy.
