Hello--Every year in June (usually the first sunday) we have Pastor Apperication.  The first few years I attended church here (I"ve been there over 8 years now) they would give the Pastor and his wife very expensive gifts--In cluded in this was our Kids church....in which the teachers would buy the gift--It was more from the teachers then the kids.  Then last year we had a new group take over Pastor Apperication--All the expensive gifts were gone!!  Groups gave from there hearts--The gifts were small and the speakers weren't the same people as every year before--THey were new and forver members, young and not so young--the pastor and his wife were so overwhelmed by the love that was put in to it--Well last year me and my VBS co-director , who also does kids church, somehow got placed in charged of the kids presentation.  I've got alot of ideas from the forum--In fact all them apperication candy saying (Like you're out of this world and hook it to a milky way), each child gave the pastor a different one--They read it to him, then each child presented a tissue flower with a reeses heart in the middle of it, which they made, to our Pastors wife and gave her a hug.  Well a few days ago I recieved an email from the lady in charge of Pastor Apperication--And again I need Ideas.....

Can anyone help?!?!?!  YOu all have such great ideas--Thanks!!

Blessings,

Jenn in PA

As a Pastor's Wife, one thing I would love is to hear something that the children remember we've done in church.  To hear and know that even little bits of stuff are getting in and sticking is the greatest blessing anyone could ever give us!

As a minister's wife, I agree w/ Peggy!  Something that I would LOVE would be a scrapbook w/ pics and writings from the kids of things we did, places we went, things we learned, etc.  That would make a GREAT Sunday School project for a couple of weeks, as well!  Blessings!  Kimberly

PS:  LOVE the Pastor Appreciation idea...wonder how I can TACTFULLY suggest it to my church...would be such a BLESSING to my sweet hubby!!!!!!!!!!

We had pastor appreciation Sunday.  I too am a pastors wife, and we have received many things over the years. Last year each family brought a card or gift and several opted to speak. It was very touching, especially the little girl who said "you are the best pastor I have ever had," (He is the ony one she has ever had).

Some things stand out, here is one. Each class was represented by one or more students Each brought something for the pastor and quoted a scripture to go with the item. A large basket was placed on the platform and each item went into the basket. I do not remember each item, but slippers was one, along with the scripture "Blessed are the feet...." It was a rest and relaxation theme, with the adult class giving a gift cert to a cabin or retreat area.

We just attended a 40th pastoral anniversary and one thing the church gave the pastor and his wife was a scrapbook with pictures of every couple he had married. There was a page for each couple and each was asked to send a picture and write something, which was included on the page. This took many months of work, but was well worth it.

Another thing - (again this takes time, so this is for next year) is to make a quilt and embroider family names on the blocks. My mom's church just did this for their pastor. We did it years ago for one of our pastors. Have the names embroidered by someone with an emb. machine, and you can put several names in each block. We asked each family who wanted their name on it to contribute a certain amount, which paid for the quilt. Hand quilt it (call your local quilt guild if you do nothave quilters in your church). In both cases mentioned, it was the first time they had received a quilt from the congregation.

Oh heavens.  I hope our church never does the quilt thing... they'd have to take me to the mental hospital.  I'm puddling up just reading about that!  LOL  How beautiful and touching that would be!

Thanks so much with the ideas...Everyone like that kids would do a scrap book that we are having the adults do one also---

We are giving each family a page--They will decorate or write what ever they want to the pastor and his wife and return it at least a week before so we can place the book together.

The kids will each get there own page....we will sent instruction home to the parents how it's to be done and to have them help there smaller children to write a message to The Pastor and his wife--1/2 page should be for Pastor the other half his wife!!  THe kids will present each page--we will put the book together after the service and meal!!

We will be having a pig roast--meal will be held in our fellowship hall--somehow I'm kinda in charge of this as well???  Not sure how that happened BUt I'm still trying to figure how I got incharge of VBS 5 years--I just agreed to go with a friend to a meeting??  And Now look:O)))

Thanks SO much for the ideas--If you have any more Please sent them....It's good to have ideas just incase our Wednesday night service decides they are doing more then cake and ice cream!!

Blessings,

Jenn in PA

Jenn

Hope all is going well in your preparations. I love the idea of having 1/2 the page for the pastor and 1/2 for his wife.

We had a visiting minister and wife over the weekend. When I served dinner she asked me where I bought my dishes. I explained that I bought the first set and the church gave me the rest for Pastor appreciation. She was shocked. She said "our church always does something for my husband for pastor appreciation, but never for me."  I cannot imagine a church that does not understand the important role a pastor's wife has in his ministry. Of course, I cannot imagine a church not appreciating the pastor's wife either!  I know people in their church, so plan to drop a few hints.

here's another idea - have children draw a picture of the perfect pastor. Talk to them about what they think makes a perfect pastor and ask them to include those things in the drawing. Usually a big heart, hands to help, etc., show up time and time again.

Last year was our first year doing Pastor Appreicaition However it was a great event. After I started with the idea of getting something together I found out it was our Pastor's 40th year in ministery. To honor him and his wife I held a surprise Luncheon. I rented a banquet room of a near by resturant and invited friends family, and our church members. Included in this I printed out invites on cards and gave to everyone stating what the event was and the cost. Everyone was responaible for their own meal and the cost of the pastor and his family was divided into the cost as well. So they had a beautiful "SURPRISE" luncheon at  a resturant. I picked a banuquet family style meal and the night before a few church members helped me decoate the banquet room. We had it decoarted in fall colors because it took place in October Pastor Appreciation month. I had a program printed up and we played a few games. How well do you know the Pastor and had them answer about 20 questions about the pastor and his wife. Things that eveyone who attended the church or knew him would know. We gave prizes to the winners. We had a plaque engraved for him and his wife with a picture of the church on it. I had his and her poems printed and framed. A special couple in the church read them and presented them to the pastor and wife. Then I had a long time friend of the Pastors come and sing his favoraite song and play it on the violin. Ship Ahoy! and then following the evening service at church we had a cake for them and all the church members. It was such a beautiful event.

1. The decorated tables at the resturant

2. Pastor and his wife recieving their plaque

3. Cake table at the church we set up

4. The cake the were given

5. The pastor and his wife with their two grandchildren during the luncheon.

I hope this gives you some ideas and that it is a wonderful event!Just remember anything done from the heart with the right attitude will be Appricated!
