| Sounds like it's a pretty good mix of those that do vs. don't. Since we have never used Group before my kids won't know what they are missing. I have received some great ideas and will present them to my Team at our next meeting.

| I have not actually tried this but one idea I had was to make bookmarks. You could put the same things on them as the trading cards.

| | Last year was our first year doing Group's VBS. We didn't purchase the buddies for each child, but did have them available for sale (at cost) to anyone who wanted them. We did the same with CD's. We'll go that route again this year, but we're also doing the Shrinkies the first day, so everyone will have some sort of a buddy. |

| | We have designed buddies that can be cut out and laminated, with the verse on the back, and then have a hole punched in them to hang on a necklace. We bought empty key rings to hook the buddies to the necklace. I am willing to share if anyone wants the files. We did this in the past and it works GREAT! Bambi |

| | I'm also struggling with the Buddies and the cost. We gave them out only once for Serengueti Trek and the kids, of course, loved them, but our spending went through the roof that year (we are a fairly small church) so we haven't given them out again. I like the trading cards idea and have them ready to print, etc.. however, my question is those of you that are going with the trading cards are you making them yourself? (printing in your printer and laminating yourself) or are you going out and making color copies and laminating at a place like Kinkos, etc? I'm wondering if it's really worth it after taking into consideration the cost of the ink, lamination and key chain? Plus it is a lot of work. I asked around places like Kinkos and it would cost me at least $2 if not more to have them make a set of trading cards for each kid. Anybody that has done them before have any tips to share as to how to make them more cost efficient? I'm wondering if it's really that big of a saving to do them instead of buying the buddies.

| | i like the buddies. i still have mine from when i was in VBS. Their adorable. our kids really look forward to getting them and having them to keep. however, cost wise, they are crazy expensive, and im loving the trading card idea. the necklace was good too, whoever said that bit. PJ. i love the fact that you use them as christmas ornaments, thats an amazing idea. i will probably steal it. just to let you know. so overall im pro-buddy!!!

| We used to do the buddies and I think they are great. However, with our growth, it is just not within our budget to spend over $1000 on bible buddies when I can make the trading cards for under $50.

| | Just thought I would tell you what I have done in the past years. Instead of using the bible buddies, I have purchased business size magnets on ebay, and made my own business size cards of each day. It would have the memory verse, with the Bible buddy and usually would also have that days bible point on there. They turned out really good and the kids loved them. I know my kids still use them everyday to put things on the fridge and they also play with all of them and think back about the great fun they had at VBS. This year I decided to go easy and we purchased the bible buddies. Next year I probably will go back to the magnet idea. But I just didn't have the time this year to be making alot of different things. Kim |

| | The cost of the ink is minimal if you use generic/clone ink from a company other than your printer's manifacturer. I have always used Epson printers and I buy my ink in bulk from print on a dime, but you can also buy it in generic cartridges from supermedia store online as well. It is MUCH cheaper and this allows me to print all the stuff I create in color. As far as laminating our Bible Buddies I finally bought a laminator at Staples and then bought 5 mil laminate online at the cheapest place I could find. I figured out the cost of a set of Bible Buddies to be less than .50 for us, which is a bargin. Hope this helps. Bambi Grady |
