| It's that time of year - recruiting for next year's Sunday School Teachers, Ministry Leaders etc. Where's God in your recruiting plan? How do you rely on God instead of yourself or others as you recruit?
Admittedly, my church's plan is that department leaders recruit Sunday School teachers, the Nominations team recruits the Ministry team leaders and so on, so the mechanics of recruiting is not all resting on my shoulders, BUT in reality, all those people rely on ME to give them names as suggestions for all the empty positions when we ALL should be relying on God for those names.
I've had round and around discussions with Nomination committee members who want me to simply fill the empty positions in our ministry for them "because YOU have to work with them" or "you know better what you need" and a host of other explanation.
I tell them I will pray for them and for God's direction, but I should not fill the empty positions for them or tell them who I want for each position. I feel like I'd be playing God and keeping them from relying on God. I do tell them that I will pray and pass on those God brings to mind, but I believe that I don't have the only direct line to God on these needs and that he can and will reveal His will and His power through others recruiting for children's ministry.
None the less, I always hang up the phone feeling that need to please and the temptation to cave to their requests ...
So, please help me!
How do YOU rely on God over of yourself or others as you recruit?
How can we plan recruiting so we rely on God, first and foremost?

| | I ask God and then wait for His answer. I'm not necessarily under time constraints where I need to present a slate for voting on which allows me to wait. I sometimes have a slot empty for awhile until I know the person to ask to fill it. Childcare has even been shut on a Sunday morning when there's no workers for the time slot. I don't believe in a warm body approach for then you usually just end up looking again in a few months. A midweek ministry has been built this way and finally had each slot filled with just the right, talented person in each place. (It took 4 years). They are still working together. This approach may not work if your group is convinced they need a name now. |

| Your approach is based on real patience and a reliance on God that bears fruit for an eternity. And I bet it took a lot of courage, too!
Waiting those four years, did you have people who weren't satisfied with the progress and/or challenged your approach? If so, how did you respond to build support for waiting on God's perfect timing?.
