My favorite sugar cookie recipe has a different ingredient - confectioners' sugar - which makes them extra good.

1 cup butter or margarine, softened

1 cup sugar

1 cup confectioners' sugar

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 eggs

2 tsp. vanilla extract

4 1/2 cups flour (maybe a bit more)

1 tsp of each: salt, baking soda, cinnamon, cream of tarter

Cream butter, sugars and oil.  Add eggs and vanilla; mix well.  Add flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon and cream of tarter.  Roll into 1 inch balls.  I usually dip in granulated sugar (green & red for Christmas) before placing on greased baking sheets, but since the kids will frost them, you probably don't need the extra sugar.  Just press them down with the palm of your hand. Bake 350 for approx. 10 minutes until lightly brown.

Enjoy!  Meg

Are the sugar cookies from Super Wal-mart peanut-free? I'm trying to find a store-bought cookie that isn't made where things with peanuts are made. We have several with severe allergies and it always makes it difficult. I know we could bake them...but we need 150 and several people making them would mean different sizes, thickness, etc and sometimes is just as costly as buying...especially at the price mentioned of $3 for 25!

You will not be able to find a bakery store item that is peanut or dairy free.  My son has multiple allergies and we deal with this on a regular basis.

Trying to find out where WAl Mart has cookies 25 for $3. Ours has cookies, but they are about 50 cents each (unless you buy pre packaged on the cookie aisle)..
