| | While I love the music every year that group provides, this years music has too much "music". Some of the songs are very long and have a lot of music playing with no words. When you have a small group of kids, 30 or less, it is hard to keep them going on the longer songs that continually repeat themselves. Kids are even asking not to do those songs. Don't get me wrong, I love the songs, but from a kids point of view, some of them were rather lengthy this year. We are just on day 3, starting tonight, and I am excited and pumped up, but will use songs during sing and play that are shorter and more upbeat without all of the extra music.

| We just finished Day One or should I say Night One. I love the music and so do the kids. We are really small (40 people worshipping) and I got 21 volunteers come out and we were blessed with 23 children. I hear more are coming out today. I actually saw a Mom on her cell talking about our power lab and saying you got to bring your child. Praise God.
The kids loved God of Wonders and the Theme song. I just wish we had more time to really do the songs justice.

| | Carla, I don't know if this would be helpful at all (as your VBS is done) - but one thing I did during the longer songs was to have the kids yell during the musical interludes. And they always yelled "GOD!" For example: during God of Wonders, there is a musical interlude where you see a whales tail and then other nature scenes. I yelled out to the kids, "who created that?" and they responded "GOD!" Then at the end of that song, when you see the world, I asked again, "who created that!?" and they yelled "GOD!" Also during "You Never Let Go" There were several musical interludes. I would ask, "Who never let's go?!? and they would yell "GOD!" Then during the last interlude, just before you sing the chorus one last time - I would say, "Let's sing it one last time nice and loud" and that would fill the awkward space. I also noticed that the adults LOVED hearing the kids yell that and even commented on it. I hope that helps some - especially if you are interested in using the songs again during the school year. | | Our VBS was held the week of July 13 with 2 sessions due to the number of children that attend (over 880 registered). The age group attending our VBS is young, with around 300 alone going into Kindergarten or younger. While the older children and the adults really liked the music, much of it was not good for the younger children. In fact, we used songs from previous year's VBS cd's for our preschool children to fill in for our music time. In the past, the Group preschool curriculum had some very basic songs (lesson appropriate words set to familiar music), but we found that did not keep the attention of the 4 and 5 year olds (it was fine for 3 and under). Since we have 10 years of Group VBS cd's (or tapes) from which to choose, I know that kindergarten and preschool appropriate songs have been available in the past. I hope that Group will consider making certain that there are songs appropriate for all ages available on the cd. |

| | Hi all. Overall, I love all the songs and always think Group music is the best. But, I want to agree that we do not like the music interludes where there is no singing. I would request that you just go from verse to verse or refrain with no long breaks. As the Sing and Play leader, I think it is awkward to have the long music interludes where the kids are expected to just move or dance around or play air guitar. The kids don't seem to know what to do and they just stare at me. When a song has the music interludes, I usually don't sing that one very many times. Maybe just on the day it is featured, then the rest of the week I repeat the other songs. For example, this year we sang "Thankful" much more than "the Power". thanks! Judi |

| | Hey everyone. This is Jenn in Pa daughter. I'm one of two sing and play leader for our vbs and I was at first very wishy-washy for doing the song 'Power' this year. One, I didn't like the looonnnggg guitar break and two I wasnt sure if the kids would understand the echo part. Now, I"m 17 and I know I'm younger then most on here and I don't mean that in any rude way but during the long breaks are you just standing there or are you getting into the music. The kids will follow whatever YOU do. If you stand, they'll stand. If you dance just a little, they'll dance just a little but if you get into it...i mean REALLY into it, they'll do just the same. Trust me! The first night's a little weird, exspeacily if you don't know the kids well but after Day 1 they get into it. As long as you have a smile on your face and your willing to be a kid yourself they'll follow you. Just go crazy. Dance, laugh, air guitar or whatever. The kids love it!
ok, well I must run. Last night of vbs and it's gona be a crazzy one!! I'll try to get my mom to get some pictures up tonight so you can see how crazy our kids get during 'Power'.
