Hey everyone,

Just thought I would put this out here if anyone had any ideas on what they would like to see from Group for VBS 2009.

I personally have my HolyLand Adventures inside.  I would like to see Bible Point Posters & Memory Verse Posters available for "Rome".  I end up making all my own posters, because I don't have anything to fill the walls up with.

I would also like the see the station posters and the shop posters sold separately.  I don't do all the shops and I add in some from past years programs, because I have supplies left over.  It saves a lot of money.

Post your ideas!

A high quality DVD showing hand motions and words for the music.  The music was our biggest complaint.  We supplemented the music with Kids Hillsongs DVD and used Group's music mixed in with a slide show with the words.  Apparently this was not an easy process to make seamless.  My AV people would very much appreciate the music on a DVD with words and motions.

I want the web toybox to have more options for printing the kids info.   It took a lot of effort to pull the info out to other programs to work with.  I want to be able to print beautiful name tags off of it with out a ton of work.   I want the director's manual to have more of the stuff the little pamphlets do.  Once I passed the books off to my leaders everything was gone.    The memory buddies were soooo expensive.

I would like more songs and actions too.    For the most part though, we just loved it!  The clip art CD was the best purchase we made.

I feel the same way about the Memory Makers, we get them because they are an amazing learning tool for the kids.  But we charge $20 to attend VBS, and that money goes to fund the entire program, and we usually make some what of a profit off of it for next year and other programs throughout the year.  However, when you have to take over $3.00 for those and over $3.00 for the student newspapers, you end up with hardly any money for the rest of your supplies.

We will always try to make an effort to purchase these only because we feel these will be the things that kids will keep for a long time, not the crafts.

Next year I hope there is more music.  The 9 songs for Galilee by the Sea were wonderful.  Everyone loved them so much that I splurged and bought CDs as thank you's for the volunteers.  I couldn't justify doing that this year for only 3 new songs, so I hope that next year is more like Galilee when it comes to music.

Another idea for next year is projector transparencies.  I know with the popularity of powerpoint, the overhead projector is becoming a thing of the past.  However, many churches still have old ones hanging around and they are sure a great tool for creating wall art.  Something I'd be willing to buy would be images of the Roman city as well as interior walls of the marketplace shops.  As long as they weren't too cartoony, they'd really help in decorating interior space for an indoor VBS.  It's so fun and easy to cover the wall with paper, project the image to exactly how you want it, trace, and then have your volunteers color away.

I agree on the Web Toy Box. I was very disappointed when I clicked on the "print" button & found that it would print 2 pages for each participant! Surely there is a way to print just a list of participants' names, ages, allergies, & tribe. Even better would be if you could choose which info to print in a table format.....like a list of the kids with their parents' names & phone numbers & e-mail addresses if that is what you need at the moment, or print off address labels for next year's invitation postcards, or print off the attendance sheet in alphabetical order, or....just something a little more user friendly!

Overall, we love how Group has set these VBS programs up, and I am sure the Web Toy Box will improve as time goes on. It is lovely to have the option of registering online. I just want to be able to transfer that info into another useful place without a lot of work. Maybe I'm just lazy!

It would be so awesome to see St. Paul in Rome geared toward the Catholic market as well.  Pope Benedict declared this year to be The Year of St. Paul, so I'd love to see Group take advantage of the timing in offering this upcoming Holy Land Adventure to the Catholic community.  A little advertisement with that in mind wouldn't hurt.  Catholic VBS directors would have yet another great reason to use Group's Holy Land VBS!
