So we just wrapped up our VBS on Friday and it went great!  We reached our max limit of 25 children and even had to turn a few away .  However, we had only planned for 25, and we only had enough volunteers for that many.

As some of you know, our program was only for kids ages 3-6, we had to make some modifications to fit that age group, mostly for Synagogue School.  After the first 2 days, we decided we would have to do something different, if the kids were going to pay attention and get anything out of that station.  We just used a children's bible, read the story for the day and asked questions throughout the story.  Then we talked a little about what they've been learning at Jerusalem Marketplace.  It seemed to work out much better and the kids enjoyed it more than the other version.

The kids also enjoyed all the crafts.  Dreidels and Memory Maker Bags were the only crafts we did from the Jerusalem Marketplace program.  We also did Stone Carving (from Galilee), Coins (from Bethlehem), and Harps (made from cereal boxes and rubber bands).  For the Memory Maker Bags we just had kids color on it with markers.  They seemed to love making Stone Carvings and Harps.  Several kids got their stone and stick and they just started stabbing the stone over and over, but they loved it.

The best part was the stories the kids told their parents when they picked them up or after JM.  One kid's mom walked in after the 1st day he holds up his stone and he shouts "Look, Mom!  I made rock!" .  Another one was a  story we heard from a parent after Day 4.  He sat and home all afternoon with his harp and sang "Jesus! Jesus!  He died for us!" after he sang that many times he ended the song with "Shalom!!!!!!!!!!".  As any parent of a 4 year old would, she was crying watching him sing this song over and over.  He stoped and asked her "Are you crying because Jesus is dead, mommy?  It's okay because He died for us, so that we can live!"  These are the reason why VBS is so amazing.

We've already been asked to do Rome next summer.  The daycare at our church is intrested in sending all 30 of their kids in the 3-6 program, because their teachers would like a little break sometime during the summer.  We're now talking expanding our program from 25 to 60+ kids!  How exciting!  However, we'll have to do some major rethinking about how to fit the program into our space with that many kids!

Pictures coming soon!

God Bless,

Matt

As of now, no.  We ended up borrowing a lot and using stuff we had leftover from other HolyLand programs.  We also set our max limit at 25 so we don't really have extra crafts.

God Bless,

Matt
