This will be my second year using LIO for our Midweek program. I have been ok trying to figure out the links between the themes and the lessons. For instance, I figured out that for Spelunkers, the cave theme was for digging deep into Gods word(Bible). I am having a tough time on how I will relate Wilderness Trail with the topic of Respect. I like to decorate and also dress up in costumes for visual effect. I like to relate the theme and make a connection on the first lesson. I see in lesson 4 that we talk about respecting God's creation. But that leaves the children to not realize the connection until week 4. Any input? This is my first time on the forum! I do enjoy reading all the posts!

Hi,

The reason the Wilderness Trail was chosen for the "Respect" module was because surviving a wilderness adventure is all about respect. To start off, every hiker/adventurer needs to respect and listen to their wilderness guide because without someone with experience and helpful pointers they won't know where to go or how to survive the wilderness.(God tells us to respect people in charge) Also, each person in the group needs to respect and help their fellow adventurers because everyone plays an important part in the Wilderness--everyone's skills and watchful eyes keeps the group safe and allows them to have a successful outcome to the adventure.(Jesus says to respect everyone) For the third lesson, (Our self-respect comes from Jesus) kids learn that if they don't respect themselves on the Wilderness Trail they won't take the necessary safety precautions and keep themselves safe from harm. And of course, as you pointed out, we are told to respect God's creation while we're out enjoying our adventures. Hope this helps you introduce this topic to the kids in your group.

May God bless you and your ministry.

I would love some tips from people who have done LIO Under the Tree.  We will be using this material in December, and I'm looking forward to going all out, but I'm anxious to hear how others have used the material.  We have rotating stations to keep age groups learning compatible with an opening and a closing.

Are the CDs for the theme full of Christmas songs?

Are the projects suitable for all ages?

We have a very low budget ministry, so I must be confident that this will be a full-service curriculum to justify putting all the funds into the material.  I used the sample of Elijah and the Prophets of Baal when were were doing Super Heroes of Faith recently, and I loved the way the sample was laid out.  I just wonder if the month long curriculum has everything we'll need.  I realize we'll have to get craft, game/activity and snack items.

If you've done Under the Tree, please give me your sment of it.

Thanks!
