I really like the idea of the wind chime for God is Real but I've searched and searched and haven't found just the right wind chime option.  I got to thinking that maybe some sort of whirligig, wind twirler or weathervane may be a good alternative to a wind chime.  I welcome any ideas on this topic. Thanks,  Lori

I am like you Lori, I liked the wind chime idea, but couldn't find a western them that I liked. So we are getting the small galvanized buckets from oriental trading (I have seen posts for better prices but we live in a small town and don't have a lot of these stores) and will have a few volunteers drill the bottoms with three holes, I ordered some small cowbells (7/8 inch) from ebay express that were 72 for 16.99 that the children will hang from the bucket and then they will decorate the buckets.

I don't have a picture to post because I am still waiting on my orders, but I think it will work.

If you search for western items you'll find lots of other fun stuff, too.

I came across these wind toys and kites at Family Fun's website. Maybe one of these ideas would work. I kind of like the sunflower flyer but would probably do it without all those buttons.

Here's the address to the page http://familyfun.go.com/arts-and-crafts/season/specialfeature/windtoys_crafts_sf/

Good luck!

We finally got our craft order and this is our finished wind chime. The children decorate the bucket any way they want with sharpie markers then string the cowbells from holes in the bottom of the bucket.

Here's my version of a windchime. I made it with a real horseshoe (cleaned up and spray painted silver), OTC western foam beads, wire, fishing line, Glue Dots, and the chimes from another OTC kit (beaded angel windchime that I got for $3.99 a dozen; I'll use the beaded angels at Christmas with the kids).

I am so excited, so much of our VBS is starting to come together, we are doing alternate crafts and we are doing windchime and using wooden horseshoe and then using cowbells for the noise maker parts..

Some really great looking windchimes.  We also are doing the chimes for the elementary age.  We are going to use the alternative one from Group.  We did decide to spray paint the tin cans/metal lids an assortment of colors.  We will let the kids decorate.  We figured out a way to insert the twine from the top of can without it being pulled through.

I so appreciate all your ideas.  Working with VBS is an area that I volunteer for each year(I am in charge of women's ministry).  I like doing the 'craft' thing, and I was elected.  So again thanks for your ideas.
