We used the multi-color packs of sharpie markers.  The kids used their imaginations and they came out great. The metal bucket made the sharpie markers look metalic - they were very pretty.

Can I ask what you used to connect the bells to the bucket?  They are super cute--thanks for the idea!

We used a thin macrame twine (figured this would weather okay) from Wal-mart -had volunteers cut it into 6 inch lengths then we put three pieces of twine, three bells and the bucket into baggies for each child. When we did the craft they tied each bell off at a different length and then cut off the excess.

Our windchime craft was awesome.  I went to tractor supply and got real horseshoes.  They were about .50 each and then used cowbells from Hobby Lobby and the kids tied on the chimes and decorated with foam beads from OTC.  everyone loved it!!!  Even adults wanted the extras to take home and make.

With prayer,
Lynette

We're going to try and do the bucket/cowbell windchime and I found small craft xowbells at www.bell-outlet.com for 21.60 (plus shipping) for 144 bells.

I just ordered them at the end of last week so I don't know how they look yet.

Thanks!

Have you received your bells yet?  I was wondering if you were pleased or not.  TIA!

ooooh I love the windchime idea.

I don't know if you have a KOHL'S department store from where you are, but I just purchased red glass cowboy boot windchimes for several of the people who went beyond the call of duty in VBS planning...they were marked down to $5.00.  Or you could keep one for yourself and have fond memories of the summer.  They have chili peppers too that would have been cute for FIESTA!

That's what I thought.  I checked our Michaels and they are out of virtually all the western themed wood cutouts.  I guess maybe some other VBS bandit cleaned 'em out!  But I think I have located an ebay seller that has all kinds of shapes at reasonable prices.

My next question...Were you able to drill holes in the wood or did you just tie the twine on?  Thanks for entertaining my questions!
