Ok, I picked up some of the lunch sized bags today to see how this will work. Noww I placed three bags together and folded them to see how it works out. The one thing that bugs me is the the little flap at the end of the bag. That is in the way when the kids need to write on that page. Is there a way around that little flap or can something else be done with it?  Any ideas or suggestions?

The other day in school my co-op teacher had our students make these little books and I thought they were perfect for the journal.  You can even use bags or brown paper.  Here is how she did it.

Fold paper to make the size book you want with the number of pages you want (just fold in half). Then on the side with the fold make two hole punches about 3 inches away from each other near the fold.  String one rubber band so each end of the rubber band is coming out of the holes.  Next, place a stick (or popscicle stick) through the rubber band.  Does this make sense? It is kind of hard to explain but a cute idea.  The stick will really tie in the western theme to!

I helped my daughter's teacher make school memories journals like that one year.  We used a pencil instead of a stick, but it sounds like the same thing.  They were cute and really easy.

Do you mean something that looks like this?   This is how I imagined it- but the bands tied tighter, of course, I just made it that way so you could see what is going on.

EDIT:   OH! This ISN'T right!   I see what you mean, now!

Mmm, this screen tastes good!

Sherri,

Picture it with only 2 holes (top and bottom, not the one in the middle.)  The rubber band is placed on the back of the journal and just the ends of the rubber band are stuck up through the holes (one end through the top, the other through the bottom.  The 2 ends of the stick are put through the 2 "loops" sticking through the holes.

Hope this makes sense.  I'm not great at giving directions.

Mmm, this screen tastes good!
