| | There is another way of doing this that I'm going to give a try. Get the Thick paper bags if you can, it will hold up better. If you use the brown lunch sacks, cut along the side and cut off the bottom/top so that it is an even edge. Stack flat. If you have about 6 pieces on top of each other, run the center through a sewing machine. Then you have a center binding for the book. Then fold closed, and use a hole punch to make a line of dots along the sewn edge. Use twine to go in and out of the holes to 'bind' the spine. If you use 6 pieces, you will end up with 12 pages. Edit* Here's a similar idea posted above: http://scrapbooking.about.com/library/weekly/blpaperbagscrapbooks.htm

| | My kids and I just made a brown bag journal for somebody for valentines. Two things...One, I punched in 5 holes, and then did two different kinds of ribbon in each hole and tied them. I loved the look. I think strips of bandana fabric and leather would look great for VBS. As for the flaps, we just taped (or glued) scrap paper over those . It doesn't have to be centered over it. Off center looked great, and then you still had a section of the brown bag to work with. Also...how about using different colored bags?!

| Hey,
What a top idea with the bags and the elastic and the sick and the greatness. I'm so going to use this, although use paper and leather type stuff. Thanks you so much. I would probably use the AR stuff but postage to the UK is sucking up my budget very quickly!!

| | I tried making the journals using brown lunch bags and I thought they were great! I was concerned a first about the flaps and opening in the pages and then I had a lightbulb moment! Ah hah! I folded the bags so that the flaps and folds are on the "open" end of the book because I think the kids will love having that extra "secret" space to write under the flaps and they can slip pieces of paper, notes, even pictures into the open parts of the bag use a paper clip to keep the contents insde. I think these are such a great idea! |
