Everyone is worried about the onion not having a strong smell or irritating the kids' skin, has anyone had a problem with the children's eyes?  I for one cannot be near raw onions being cut because my eyes tear and burn like crazy.  I can't imagine doing this station four times with onions.  I tried the markers that someone suggested.  The first time I did it, it worked wonderfully.  The second time, the markers smeared all over my hand.  I will take any suggesions.  Today is Day 3  for us.  So I have to figure this out by Friday.

What Roger did was to take two onions and quarter them ahead of time.  He put each quarter in a plastic ziploc bag.  Then he just passed the bags out to the crew leaders and didn't have to handle the onions themselves after the initial cutting.  (Don't put them in the fridge!)

It's the juice/oil from the onion that makes you (and me!) cry.  I am basically blinded by onions!  But I've learned that if I don't touch my eyes or face, it's MUCH better.

Since the crew leaders are the ones touching the onions and you're just touching the bags, it shouldn't be as bad.

Thanks, Peggy. It's not just me I'm worried about. (Actually, I'm the director just trying to help my Bible leader make a decision.) I figure, if I'm that affected by onions, what about the kids and crew leaders? I wouldn't want anyone to be that uncomfortable for the rest of the night.  Nobody has complained about it on the board, so maybe I'm just overreacting.  Well, if nobody posts about having that problem by tomorrow, I guess we'll stick with the book version.  (I will have the markers on the side, just in case).

Thanks for the marker suggestion. I like this much better than the onion. (I tried it, too, and it works!)
