I won't be doing this one until August or September, but what I did get so far are colorful posters from the local teacher supply store all about tornadoes and such, meant to teach about the science of it. I figured the kids, especially the older ones, might be interested in that.

I might add some dark clouds on our one big wall we decorate similar to what I have up there now for Balloon Fest, except instead of using polyfill for fluffy white clouds, I might use fuzzy grey yarn. Maybe a big (5-6 ft.)simple drawing of a funnel cloud like the one on the logo.

I also make posters of the main Bible verse and any others that are referenced in the songs and/or lessons and put them on a smaller space we've come to call the "scripture wall.".

We're working with our Web team to get the decorating ideas posted, but here are the ideas so you have them without further delay!

  1. Create storm clouds on ceiling (gray paper, cotton batting spray-painted gray, etc)
  2. Mural with tornados, hail, rain, etc.
  3. Storm Chaser’s area or news station with computers, TVs, and other equipment.
  4. Suspend cut tinsel for rain throughout your large-group area.
  5. For the media-savvy, create a video with short segments from news media rain reports or movies with famous storm scenes. Make sure all movie clips are age-appropriate and not scary for kids. Have the clips playing as they enter and exit the large-group area.

Those sound great. I had made clouds, funnel clouds, and lightning bolts. I love the rain "tinsel" idea but won't be able to use it as we have to set up and tear down every Sunday morning. Our children's ministry area is our fellowship hall (for lack of classrooms) so there's no way I could re-hang tinsel for 5 weeks. I have to keep our decor as simple as possible as we have 15 minutes from the time pre-service prayer ends until our service begins. I have faith that one day God will provide for our needs!
