| | Hi everybody! We are getting ready for our LIO Training, finally! and I'm looking for ideas, suggestions, etc. We always do Group's Trainings, so the Training from the Director's CD seems almost the same as VBS, etc. I want to bring something new, specially because I'm inviting all the CM Staff, because I want everybody to really understand Large/Small Group concept, so let me know if you have any idea or suggestion, please. We will be using the Wilderness Trail, because we are doing AR for the whole Summer and I want to connect the decoration. I'm recording the Training, so any newcomer could see the Training later. Thanks!

| Ok...we did this training way back last August. I did have them break into small groups and try a small group activity from an actual lesson. They loved doing that part. It was hard to get them to stop talking long enough to move on and thus gave me a great example on how relationships are built in the small group time. So I would encourage you to do that part of the training. I figure if it made such an impact that i remember it from that long ago, it must have been worth the time!

| | A thought on talking and relationships... I was just at the Externally Focused Church Conference early this week, and I attended a session on volunteers. One challenge, they noted, to recruiting (or 'inviting') is that we are not building relationships in church as much anymore, and therefore it is hard to invite people when we don't know them and their gifts. So let's keep the talking going! If you didn't know, all Group's curriculum resources include our REAL (Relational, Experiential, Applicable, and Learner-based) guarantee -- which starts with relationships! So you're on the right track.

| | I just had my "end of school year" get-together with them and I was sure to include relational time. I wanted to both celebrate the last year and plan for summer/fall. This time I had them talk about the secrets of their success. I asked them -- what did you do over the last year that helped you succeed in the following areas: - preparing your lessons & activities - building relationships with the kids - building relationships with others on your team - building your relationship with Jesus We did table discussions on this and they turned in their answers (one scribe per table). I will share their answers at our fall kick-off training as a tool for them. I told them my best ideas really come from listening/observing what others do. It prompted them to share all sorts of stories and successes. It took some time but was well worth it.

| | Hi, everybody! yes, we did our Training last Thursday! Was a blessing, we had around 25 people, so that was great. I had them first together as a large group, we had discussion in a large group and later I asked them to divide in small groups, they loved to see the difference! And yes, Cindy they had so much fun with the activities that I had a hard time to get them back!! I gave them a overview of the curriculum - Wilderness Trail -we begin with jumpstart, countdown, prayer, songs and then we had a drama. We also did snack from week 1 (great!!), then we had a break where we got more food and time to fellowship. In the second part, we work around building relationship with the kids, the difference between the large/small group. I gave them some paperwork to read at home, and this week I want to send an e-mail to follow-up. For the decoration, I used the mountain background (that we did for the VBS Jumpstart) and we had one Christmas tree, I plan to have all the church's plants and a few more Christmas trees. We had some camping stuff and a tent. Oh, I did a paper trail on the floor. I didn't have to much time to prepare for that... But, was festive enough!!
