Dawn:

Thanks for the great idea.  I hadn't tried to put the beads on the bandana yet (our VBS is in Aug), but was on my "to do" list.

Last night at church, my craft lady and I got together and I told her of the problems everyone was having and told her of your idea with the Bolas (I didn't know what to call them last night --got some funny suggestions from others).    We decided to do this instead of cutting and threading beads on the bandana themselves.   We also decided to use the salvation colors for the beads.

~~~Seek the Lord and His Strength; Seek His Face Continually.  Psalm 105:4~~~
We too were having difficulty with this craft. Love the bola idea.
For the preschoolers though, we decided beading was too difficult, so we ordered plain with bandanas and prestamped them with the buddy stamps.  Then we are having the kids color them with fabric markers and/or fabric crayons.
We made beaded bandanas on Monday (7/23) and didn't have any trouble.  Maybe it's because I made up my own directions!  Ha!  (I find this forum difficult to navigate and never did find the directions for this alternate craft so had to make up my own.) I cut the bandanas in half diagonally so each one made two.  Then I marked (chalked) a line 2 inches above the hem on each side of the remaining corner.  I cut the first fringe straight up at the corner (a fat half inch wide). Then I cut three more fringes on each side of the corner for a total of seven.  By cutting straight up from the corner you are cutting on the bias which stretches but doesn't ravel.  The fringes end up about 3 inches long.  The hemmed end of each fringe  is at an angle and a simple twist of the hem creates a point that slips easily through a pony bead. The children put 3 pony beads on each fringe and then knotted each one or a leader helped the little ones.  We were easily done in 20 minutes.  We pinned our name badges to these bandanas.  Hope this helps!
