Could you tell me what these are called and where you find them?  They don't show up very well on my page. Do you use them with other things to get the appearance of a campfire or alone?

The campfire is one of the details I haven't worked out yet either. Thanks....

I have a link to building one similar to this on my S.I.F.A.R. site. Click Here

Here is a larger picture. You can get these is most party supply store that still have Halloween stuff or costumes on display. OF course the best time to get these are after Halloween. I got a pair for only $4.99 last year!

Do a web search on "flaming light" or "flaming torch."  Here's a place that has them cheap:

A lot of party stores carry them. Spencer gifts (not my favorite store, but they do have awesome blacklight supplies) has them.

Put logs around them and that's all you need.

We made one a few years back that looked pretty good. I took several strands of white christmas lights & put them on blinkers. Piled them on the floor, so the strands were half mixed, half grouped together. Then I put red & yellow tissue paper over the lights, a little tented so they weren't directly on the lights. Then made rocks from paper lunch bags & logs out of paper towel rolls. The lights blinking thru the tissue paper made it look like flames. Since it was in a darkened room, it looked great & pretty realistic. Took all of 15 minutes to build, & practically nothing in cost.

I'll be tackling the campfires in the next couple of days & have found everyone's ideas very helpful. We are on a really tight budget so I plan to use pool noodles ($1 each), cut them into quarters and use the hot knife to give them grooves to look a little more "log like". I'll then stack them together, probably fasten them with silicone adhesive, and paint them with a brown base and black/orange/red/yellow highlights...maybe even use glow in the dark paint to give them the effect of glowing embers. Not really sure about the flame yet, I purchased some tissue paper - we may not have a "working campfire" but with a tight budget and less than 2 weeks to go I guess it'll do in a pinch. Any suggestions would be helpful (and appreciated) and will let you know as the campfires develop. Thanks for all the good advice & encouragement!

Be Blessed!

use christmas lights, tissue paper flames,  and a small fan (available at $ stores) under the logs.

I've used the same campfire for several VBS years now and the kids/adults love it!

I gathered sticks and small pieces of wood from my yard and bought some orange and also some red felt. I also bought some orange and some red tissue paper.  I placed blinking christmas lights on the top of a rubber maid container and covered the lights gently w/ the wood and felt while sticking the tissue paper into small gaps. I then add leaves to cover the container lid that is left exposed on the corners. The lighting in the room varies depending on the age group of kids as the little ones are easily spooked at times.  I put tea lights in lanterns and have them around the room to add to the 'fire' like effect.  The lanterns sit in safe places of course! For younger kids we leave a small spotlight on behind the painting drop cloth for Hot Bible Adventures.

I don't disassemble this fire!  It goes in a small craft closet and has been used for the past 4 years as a burning bush; a campfire for the wise men in Christmas Pageants and for VBS skits.  Kids love to get into the act by acting cold and gathering 'round the 'fire' to warm up :o)  Blessings to each of you in your adventures!

I am gathering small sticks and using red Christmas lights.  My brother-in-law did his tree all in red last year so I am borrowing his lights to put under the sticks.  Then I am sticking red, yellow and orange tissue paper in between the sticks.

We cut pool noodles into log-size pieces and covered with brown paper to make the logs.  Then we just used the white Christmas lights with red and yellow tissue paper to make the flames. It was easy and looked great.

I made some pool noodle logs as well. I cut them to length then made a slit down the entire thing and slid 2 noodle pieces together (makes them less noodleish and more ovalish). Then I taped on a few bumps and "twigs", covered them in wood contact paper and they look pretty real.
