| On one of the other HLA forums, someone posted a link to Victorie (http://www.victorie-inc.us/oil_lamps.html), a company that supplies fragrant oils and incense using Biblical herbs. It also sells working oil lamps! This has inspired me to ask whether the clay "lamps" from Group could be used in this way? I could find an oil lamp wick and use olive oil. With adult supervision (which has to be there with any flame), is this any more dangerous than the tea light in the lamp?
A problem I discern from the Victorie website is that the Group lamp may seep oil through the clay. Victorie mentions a special treatment to their lamps, if requested, to prevent this. Anyone have suggestions as to what the treatment is, or what I could do to effect that?

| | I'd worry about the oil. If the tea light tips over, you have the wick to put out. If the oil spills, it may all light and you have a pool of burning oil. |

| I've done the past two Holyland programs and I can honestly tell you that I'd shy away from this idea if I were you. My tribe leaders all report hesitations with even using the tealight candles and real fire. With the preschoolers, we're going to use the battery-operated ones. The kids are all excited and crowded together in a small space and you have to be really careful to not have a disaster. This also gives you the proverbial "one more thing" to worry about. Things are so crazy in that marketplace that I strive every year to eliminate things that create work and concern for no good reason. I think trying to light actual oil in the Group lamps would definitely fall in that category.

| "Reality check" -- LOL!  I'm doing that daily this week! Today's dilemma: will anyone's time at VBS be more worthwhile if the nametag names are printed on the computer as opposed to being printed by hand? I need to take my own advice about not creating more work than there already is!
