| We are doing a kick-off party this Sunday during Sunday School (yes VBS begins that night!!!) and we are using leather bracelets as one of the craft stations. We have the bracelets, "stamps", hammers, etc.... BUT someone said we had to soad the bracelets before attempting to "stamp" our designs on them. Is that true? Can someone help me out? Thanks!

| I never heard of that, but it sounds interesting. We did them for JM and we did not soak them, but we needed a real hammer as opposed to the wooden mallet in order to get the stamps to imprint properly. Would like to know if you have to presoak for future reference.

| | I tried one bracelet w/a real hammer and it didn't seem to imprint all that nicely. I had to hammer a lot of times and the imprint still wasn't so nice. So when someone said we should soak them - that didn't seem like a bad idea. Any more help out there? I only have 5 days left.

| Where did you get your bracelets from? Ours imprinted just fine with just one pounding. I guess it depends on the quality of the bracelet. We got ours from Tandy Leather Factory.

| Well for one, you need to really bang down on that hammer! Just as if it was a nail. One good bang will do. Remember you need a hammer and you must be on a very solid (preferable concrete) surface, the wooden mallets do not work unless you bang on the stamp a few dozen times! We had this project for the older kids. The younger ones just colored theirs with colored sharpies.

| | Just got to work on the age 3&4 kids wristbands today AND I hammered a couple of good times on a tiled floor. This worked much better! I am now going to have almost all of the children's wristbands done (age3 through gr. 2) since it wasn't all that easy to hammer and keep the stamp in the same spot. Thanks to your suggestion I am going to have those kids color theirs w/sharpies as well. I believe I will still let the gr. 3 through gr. 6 hammer theirs. Hopefully each group can finish in the 15 minute time frame I alloted! Thanks for the help PJ!
