| My wife and I are hungry to reach our neighborhood. We're starting with relationship-building and fun activities. We recently had a neighborhood flag football game that was followed up by a lunch at our house. We also have neighbors over for dinner. But we're looking for ideas on fun ways to connect with our neighbors that they'll be excited to participate in. Any thoughts? Karl

| We have family game night at our house. On Friday nights after dinner, we invite our neighbors to come over with their favorite game and goody. Then we take turns playing games and eating lots of tasty treats. It's a very simple evening but lots of fun.

| One idea I heard of for starting a neighborhood outreach, especially if you don't know many people in the area, is to plan a neighborhood food drive. Connect with an agency such as a local food bank or shelter to determine what they need. Then make and distribute flyers about the event around the nieghborhood. A week before the collection, post signs in your yard and around the neighborhood. The key is not to go door to door to collect the food, but make your house the central drop-off location. On the day of the event, have plenty of coffee and doughnuts on hand, plus a contact sheet that neighbors can sign. Hopefully, relationships will naturally begin. I plan to try this--if it ever stops snowing!!

My wife and I live in a house that backs up to a small park with a playground owned and maintained by our homeowners' association. We have found that the park to be a "safe" place to talk with neighbors while our kids played in the playground. We have made several friendships with other families with kids and have invited them and their kids to worship, VBS, fall fest, etc. However, we stay friends with them no matter if they accept our invitation to church or not. I think it makes a huge difference that we are friends first.

| We've received much more snow than normal the last few weeks, so we decided to have the neighborhood and a few friends over for a dessert party. We started the invitation out "We've been cooped up for too long. Hitch up your one-horse-open sleigh and come over to meet your neighbors." We tried to appeal to a common denominator - cabin fever - and have gotten quite a few yeses.

| We did something similar in my neighborhood but it was foosball. I just can't get the guys in my neighborhood over to my house for a Bible study but they'll come out in droves for foosball. What was nice is that anyone, regardless of athletiscm, could be a foosball champion. I would love to hear other guy's ideas for men's ministry.
