This is my first time serving as VBS Director and we are having our VBS on June 11-15. I am really excited about the Spotlight Drama feature this year and have a volunteer to take the photos and run the powerpoint presentation. However since she is not that familiar with powerpoint I have allso loaded the Spotlight Drama slideshow on a spare laptop.  We both have tried to fix the soundbite file for Day 3 (slide 18.2). However, when we copy the file from the desktop to the Day 3 program, we do NOT get the overwrite question and therefore two copies of the slide 18.2 show up in the folder. When you play the slideshow the new soundbite does not play.  Even when I try deleting the old slide 18.2 from the folder the new one does not play. Does anyone know how to fix this?  Thanks!

Yes!  Here's what you do.

Save the file you need and delete the old one.

Open the Powerpoint and go to the slide with the bad soundfile.

Delete the little speaker thing that is there.

Go to Insert - Movies and Sounds - Sound from File.

Browse to the location of the file and select it and OK.

A box will pop up and ask you if you want to start it automatically.  YES, you do.

Right click on the sound icon and choose Edit Sound Object.

Select the box that says "Hide Icon" and you'll be set to go!

That should do it for you!

Thank you SO MUCH for your reply. I will try it this afternoon after my makeup teen training session. I'll let you know how it goes.  P.S. I called Group yesterday and had to leave a phone message with tech support. No call back yet from them. THANKS AGAIN!

I just started really playing around with the powerpoint presentations and came upon the same problem with the soundbite for day 3.  I got it fixed, but when I right click on the sound and click on edit sound object, all the options I get are play options to "loop until stopped".  When I play the slide show, I can see the sound icon.  Can you help with this one?

Thanks!

Patti

What version of PP are you using?  I think the older ones had a different place to hide the icon.  Of course, the easiest solution is just drag it off of the slide to the side or top.  Then no one can see it because it's outside the "show" area.

I believe I am using PP 2002. I tried your idea of dragging it off the slide and it worked!  Thanks so much!

If you are just doing a slide show of pictures you don't need a template like the spotlight drama. Just open a new doent and insert your pictures on each slide. There is an option:

Insert...Picture...New Photo Album

which will do this easily for you (I'm not sure how recent a version of PPT you need for that option though).

You could also create a "movie" using something easy like Photo Story 3 (a free download if your operating system is Windows XP) http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/photostory/default.mspx

There's lots of stuff out there for creating picture slide shows....you may even already have something on your computer!

I use MovieMaker (free from Microsoft) and really like it!
