The Operation Prayer Bear project sounds great.  I have been trying to figure out how much it will cost per kid.  On page 17 of the catalog, it says a $1 will cover the cost.  It looks like the bears for 10 kids cost $15.99 which means just the bears cost $1.60 per kid and that does not include the survivor Bible or the felt heart and poly filling.  Am I missing something or is the staement on page 17 of the catalog wrong?

1 package of Prayer Bears takes care of 10 kids. It's $1.60 per kid for the Prayer Bears. The package of White Felts Hearts is for 10 kids and it's $.20 per kid. The Operation Kid-to-Kid Survivor Bibles are $.99 each. The total for each kid would be $2.79. That's what I see anyway. If you buy the Bible Books for your Avalanche Ranch, the Survivor Bibles comes in the Bible Book so you don't have to order the Survivor Bible if you order the Bible Books.  I hope this helps you.

I feel that Group Publishing needs to either lower the cost of the materials or put them on sale so the cost is consistent with their claim (less than $1).  I do not know if Group Publishing is making a profit on these items for the mission project, if they are I feel that making a profit on these items is inappropriate.

For those who purchase the Bible books for VBS, they will have the OK2K books without increasing their budget.  There are some people who purchase the books but don't do the OK2K project and have offered the books free or reduced price in the past.

As for the cost of the bears, do they say the mission project is less than $1 or do they claim that you can do a mission project AND a craft for less than $1?  If we want to just do the mission project, then we just need to purchase one package for every 20 children making the cost about 80 cents plus the stuffing.  You can probably find someone at church to cut out white hearts from felt if you need to cut costs on that.

The bears do work out to be 80 cents a piece.  The decription of the project does state that there is to be a pair of bears for each child.  The bear that the child keeps serves as a reminder to pray for the child that receives the other bear.  There is the cost of the survivor's Bible and they ask for $25 to cover the cost of distributing the bears.  I do think this project is really great.  It is very different then the types of projects our kids have done in the past.  I just think it is important to be up front about costs.

It's my understanding of that statement that $1 would more than cover the .80 cost of sending a bear to Africa, but not the one that they get to keep. You could always just not let the kids keep one.

Just today I'm getting ready to order for our VBS and I realized that too, because I was searching for the felt hearts and they do adds things up. Can somebody from Group answer us on that?

Did anybody found another source for the felt hearts? Last year we used foam hearts, but I want to use the felt this year, but we have around 120 kids, so I need to buy at least 12 pkgs and this will add up a lot!

I just cut hearts out of some white felt I had on hand.  I cut 60 hearts while watching television on evening.  If you have a lot to cut, maybe some ladies could help.
