I believe several groups are using the prayer journals from OTC. that's what I have planned. Has there been any trouble with the kids doing the lacing?

We ordered the Prayer Journal kits from Oriental Trading and my craft site leader wants to return them and find something else. The paper that is included in the kit is basically tissue paper. The concern is that the chintzy paper will not hold up well (especially with the preschoolers).

Not sure what Plan B is yet...

I made Prayer Journals from small brown kraft paper bags. I hole punched the folded ends for holding the tie. I cut scrap paper into a size to fit, a regular 8 1/2 x 11  made two good pages per sheet. Then I cut yarn about 8' long (measure what works for you), dipped the ends in glue and let dry. This made the ends easier to lace.

Place paper sheets between the covers and lace together, beginning in the back and coming up to the front. The children can then lace with ease, add foam stick-ons or draw, paint, etc. to finish. These were made from "found" supplies at no additional cost. Pages can be replenished as needed. I put in 5 pages to start. I have a Bible theme pencil to accompany.

It's all good!!!

There are a couple of alternatives (collected from here) posted on the SIFAR site.

Hi PJ! the first pic from Michelle's idea is missing... I loved it! Cardboard, that is easy!

We are doing them from paper lunch bags, (they make these as cards in scrapbooking).  Adding some pages between the bags. The neat thing about this is the open ends of the bags are pockets, and the kids can slide in pictures of things they are praying about or thankful for, as well as journaling.

Will post pics/instructions if anyone needs them.

I found cute red and blue bandana scrapbook paper at Hobby Lobby (also demin and red checked).    We are cutting covers from brown craft paper (6" x 4 3/4" )and putting 12 blank white sheets of paper in them (3 pages cut into 1/4ths).   Then adding 2" x 6" strip of scrapbook paper folded in half...1" on front and 1" on back) to act as binding.   (All have 3 holes punched in them before assembling).  Use 4-5" pieces of med. weight jute to tie through holes.  Kids can decorate cover or will have pre-printed "God is with us" labels for younger kids to glue on
