| I need your prayers. I am discouraged. Seems like the people in our parish are just too busy for VBS. This is my third year directing. The first two years we had over 50 volunteers (teens and adults) and 60-70 kids registered. We don't have a preschool but we have childcare for our adult leaders' children-so between 6-8 tiny ones.
This year we have less than half the volunteers and about half the registrations. We did have to charge this year but that hasn't seemed to be the problem. Most people just don't make VBS a priority---even though we had two really great VBS's the last two years with Serengeti Trek and Fiesta.
I am also busy too! I am taking cl to get my teaching certification back in speech/lang. pathology, looking for a speech/lang. path. job in the schools after an eight year break, and tending to my two kids (11yrs. and 6yrs.). Hard to find time to direct VBS, especially with no assistant director this year. I feel like I am drowning in it all. More stressful than fun. |

| | Judy, I feel for you. My husband and I have found that people are getting less and less interested in making church functions their priority. We left our previous parish because we were getting burnt out with running ministry. Granted we had a good size group, but it wasn't the same people all the time and it really felt like the energy was only coming from us and people were saying yes to help out of guilt. We do things on a diocese level too and same deal. Other things are taking priority over things that people say is important and they want it to keep going, but if we don't step up, then it doesn't happen. Now the parish I'm at, was going to run VBS. I backed out because of family issues and I just found out that it was decided last week that they cancelled VBS. Broke my heart to hear this. But I know there has been no advertising and the lack of volunteers had something to do with it. You setting VBS as a priority will be rewarded. Hang in there. Prayers are being offered for you and your situation. hugs, Joyce

| | Judy, I will be praying for you as well. I feel that VBS has gone down the drain too as far as funding and volunteers. God will provide though and give you everything you need. For He is our Comforter and our Healer. God has given you a heart for VBS. Follow your calling and you will be blessed. I know what your going through. God Bless, Josh T. in Ohio

| | Thank-you! It helps to know that prayers are being said. God does usually come through for us in the end--just enough. That doesn't mean we are off the hook. Still burnout is happening for me. I coordinate the Christian Formation program for grade 3-5 during the school year and it is always hard finding "teachers" to lead the cl. With needing to return back to my old profession I doubt the first year will be easy so I will be needing to step down in the religious education job also --if I find a job in Speech and Lang! Hopefully God understands my burnout. |

| | God will never expect more from you than He knows you can handle. So relax and breathe. He is in Charge! Even if your VBS ends up smaller it may be so just so people experiencing it are touched in just the right way. Or, this may be the wake up call someone needs. Sometimes it takes someone finding out that it will not get done unless they step up to get them to start helping and take the position to which they are being called. |
