| | I scored a great buy on fleece tonight at JoAnns! I'd been thinking about a craft of making small fleece pillows (instead of the bears) if I could find an appropriate print fleece at a good price. JoAnns has a special on fleece this week - $2.99 per yard for certain prints. I went to take a look and found a great print. It has overlapping squares in various shades of blues and grey with figures of snowflakes, deer, bear, horse, trees in the squares. I asked the opinion of another customer and the clerk and they agreed it fit the theme. I'll get a solid blue for the back of the pillow. It will be a bit time intensive prepping the pillows -- cutting the squares and the fringe but we have until August to get ready. I think I will also portion out the poly-fil stuffing into ziploc bags. The kids then will tie the fringe on 3 sides, stuff the pillow and tie fringe on 4th side. I've done this with Girl Scouts and the kids really enjoy it. Just thought I would share! Lori |

| How much material do you need for each pillow?

| | Well, it depends how big you want the pillow to be. Plan on about 3 inches extra on each side for the fringe. So, I'm planned on cutting 12 inch squares, will end up with roughly 6 inch square pillows, plus the fringe. Fleece generally is 58-60 inches wide. Being conservative and considering that some may be wasting from the selvage, I figure 12 squares per yard (4 width X 3 length). You of course need 2 squares for each pillow. I'm going to get a solid for the back, hoping to get at a comparable price of 2.99/yard. So, figure 6 total pillows from a yard of fleece equals 50 cents per pillow for the fleece. Then, with the poly-fill, I figure about a $1 per pillow total. Maybe more than you need to know...:-) Lori |
