| | Being from Central Texas, our kids (and some adults) were rather puzzled at the site of pine trees and mountains on all the AR materials. And I as the director got rather tired of trying to explain that Group Publishing is located in Colorado where ranches do indeed have mountains and pine trees. So my VBS team and I decided to do a Texas-style AR. We still used the materials as far as Bible Buddies/Points/Treasure Verses/etc. but we made our decorations look like we were on a ranch in West Texas complete with campfires and cactuses! Our kids loved every minute of it! The adults got a kick out of our fake barbed wire (or in Texan: "bob war") Wow Cow Daily Challenge fences. I can't tell you how many times both adults and kids were warned not to touch it or be careful! It was completely harmless but it sure kept the kids from messing with the fence and other decorations. Also, instead of doing a traditional offering, we ask our students to bring school supplies to send on our missions trip to the Rio Grande Valley. They placed all their supplies in a big washtub at the front of the sanctuary. Anyway, that was long and rambling, so without further ado, here's all my decorations and my staff's decorations for the week! If you have any questions about how we did our decorations (techniques/supplies/etc.) please ask. I'm more than happy to share! Here's our decorations scrapbook! http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=2090480150 |

| | Thanks for sharing. Was trying to come up with something simple for the kids to put their offering in, and a wash tub is a great solution...one less thing we have to make!! |

| Nice pictures! You said you are in the heart of Texas? Did you also get a real horse? I would do anything to get a real horse just for the city kids to take pictures with it. I added your album to the Groupie AR Album link. http://myvbshome.info/VBS2007/ARAlbums.htm

Partnering with parents to "TRAIN" up our children in the way they should go! |

| | No, we didn't get a real horse. We do have a few church members who own horses, but we like to keep our VBS allergy friendly (especially since the director (me) and a bunch of workers have bad allergies). So we said no to real hay and real animals. Besides, I'd be afraid of the liability involved in having a real horse (biting, accidental kicks). But that would be fun to give city kids a chance to be around a real horse - or even a mule or cow! |
