I am looking for a cool entrance way from like a foryer to the sanctuary.  The foryer is small, possibly 5 feet wide by 8 or 10 feet.  Any cool ideas like a walk through type thing is appreciated.  Our vbs is in two weeks.

How about make it look like a stable?   Put hay and a saddle.  Perhaps a bucket (of water or empty) and horse gear?

When I go to the fair, stables are decorated and include the horse's name.  This would have to be Buc's stable?

We decorated our preschool hallway with a spilt rail fence, grass at the bottom, sunflowers and the cutouts of the life sized Bible Buddies. The kids really loved it.

Someone has a covered wagon entrance that would work in a small space like the one you describe.  Use sheets over a PVC or other frame to have everyone feel like they're walking through a wagon.

Here's one way of doing it, but I seem to recall recently seeing a pic of something even simpler!

Allison that looks adorable

We are doing something like this:  http://www.backdrops.net/images/39%20Cirlcle%20K%2010%20x%2012.JPG

An entrance to a ranch, but ours will have the words Avalanche Ranch where the Circle K is, and we have a cowboy silhouette thing for the top of it.

Blessings!

We start on Sunday so getting ready to put things into place. In the entry way I am putting the western town. I bought a jail standee which has been used twice already and now will in the hall next to a bulletin board filled with wanted posters. I made a general store out of cardboard it even has old western signs in its windows. In front will be different things you can buy at a store like bags of feed, lanterns, Old milk can, etc.

Then as you go thru the doors into church about 1/4 of the way down the aisle is the large Avalanche Ranch entry way. So the kids will get to walk under it each day. Since on a real ranch, the sign is usually out by the road and then its a long way to the ranch house. Up on the altar will be the ranch house and rest of the background. One one side will be the cover wagon and on the other is the screen for singing. In front
of the screen will be the fence with a horse standing behind it.
I will take lots of pictures. Hopefully I will be able to figure how to post them. I have never done this.

Nice job Allison! I love decorations that take up as much space as  possible. I wish we had a PRe-School! Thanks for sharing!

I was actually planning our decorations out the other day with my director so that I could get my budget set for our VBS that will take place in August. I am building a couple of mine shafts (out of 2x4s and cement) that will go from the lobby into our sanctuary. At our church, we have a walkway leading from the parking lot into our lobby, where it splits off into 4 directions- sanctuary, social hall, library, and parish office. I'm actually building 4 mine shafts that the kids can walk under into the sanctuary, and then we will have our 3-D display that we received from another church.

I am actually very happy with everything that we planned out. We also have a preschool, that takes place in part of the social hall, and we never do this much decorating. I'm hoping it turns out successful. We already have 70 kids signed up, and VBS doesn't start for another 6 weeks.

I'm planning to make a mine entrance. Someone posted a pic a while back, & I'm modifying it for our use. However, our program starts Monday, so we'll see if it actually gets done.
