As you know, those skinny pine trees are costly but I took some PVC pipes and spray painted them brown. Then I took a "yard sale" pine tree. (Those older models where you have to sort the branches by size and stick them on individually) and poked a branch in the top and then laid branches over the pipe and twisted a couple of branches together here and there to hold then to the pipe and to the branch directly above and before long I had really neat, yet really cheap and easy trees! I bought a metal pipe flange and a short pipe that would fit inside and that attaches to a wooden base to make it stand up. One yard sale tree can easily make several trees!

How did you attach the branches to the PVC pipe?

I am a visual learner.    I need a little more guidance please.

God Bless

John, if you want to send pictures again I'd be more than happy to post them for you.

I just twist some of the small (individual) branch twigs around the pipe and twist them together. You can see a tree I made on the Full-Size costume thread. The tree is to the left of the barn in the first picture. I made four trees from one yard sale tree in minutes. The tree "top" had to have the end of the branch bent straight to fit into the skinny pipe. Then the next branch gets some small twigs twisted to it to keep it from sliding down the pole. I used two branches per section, one on the "front side" and one on the back side. Twist the sides together with the same technique. Think of the small twig-like branches as pipecleaner twisty ties.

Let me know if you are still confused and I'll try to explain.

Thanks!  My sister in law found 4 trees at a yard sale.  I can't wait to get our young people started on making the trees.  Our VBS starts July 23.  Keep us in your prayers.

God bless
