| | What are some of the games that you have added to the program. We did it last year and plan to repeat this year but I would like to improve on what we have to offer the kids. Sherry Alabama

| | Hey there~ I am new to this this year and was wondering if you could help explain this a little more to me. Is this supposed to substitute a Halloween Carnival night?

| We did HU for an end of year Sunday School Party (the last week of SS). The kids loved it. I did vary some of the games slightly. I didn't do the Prophets chicken slide thing as it seemed labor intensive--instead a bought some butterfly nets at the dollar store and one kid held the butterfly net while another kid tried to get the chicken into the net. We did the Goliath Marshmallow toss game, only we had Goliath as a large ball attached to the top of a preschool plastic "rough tikes" Basketball hoop. For Daniel we had a Lion Toss. We tossed stuffed animal lions (we had three of them, different sizes) into plastic buckets attached to a large lazy susan like spinning circle. We did Noah and Moses as suggested in the games booklet. Noah was messy but fun. The Moses game leader complained that he always get the hardest game, but I think he was having fun. For Esther, we did Magic Scratch crowns from OTC, which are a big hit among both boys and girls from age 3 up to 5th grade (one mom even confessed that she thought she was having more fun than her 3 year old!).

| | We used it last year on the Sunday night before Halloween, and will again this year. We had a great turn out. I loved the material, just trying to get some more games for the children to play. I like to make it to where they don't have to go anywhere else. They can stay the whole three hours and have lots of fun. We have a drawing for door prizes and you have to be present to win. Everyone goes into the sanctuary and our Pastor tells the story of the pumpkin/gospel and then we give out door prizes. It worked really great last year, I was hoping some of you had made some games to add to what the book offers. Sherry

| | Yes, it is a halloween alternative. We did ours Oct 31 and had many comments on how thankful parents were that we did it then instead of the Sat. or Sun before. We had a pumpkin decorating contest. Each person could bring a decorated pumpkin - it had to be a Bible character or depict a Bible story. We have done this before and it is always so awesome. Games - I bought the gel stuff at Hobby Lobby and put it in a large dishpan. Added clear marbles and had a timer. The kids had to pull the marbles out and put htem in a container (no gel please). They received the same number of candies as the marbles they pulled. We have a game that is 4 pieces of 1x2's - 2 upright and two across (one higher than the other. There are metal pieces hinged to each cross piece. We can attach whatever characters we want to this and the kids knock them down with bean bags. We did a bean bag toss. We did a bunch and my mind is blank! |

| | We painted a big lion on wood and let the kids throw bean bags through the holes we cut out. We can use this over and over. - It goes along with David and the Lions Den We have a jail (borrowed from the fire department -they use it with their fund raisers) and our Preschool director dressed in biblical attire, sat in there and taught them songs and how the when the diciples sang praises to God the doors burst open, and their chains were broken. Some of the little ones spent the biggest part of the night in "jail". They loved it! We had Queen Esther's face painting and crown making booth. This was a hit. These are just some of the ideas that we added. Anna- I Love VBS (and fall festivals!) |
