We're also using jean bags this year. A couple of weeks ago we had our annual church rummage sale and we had TONS of jeans. The rummage sale ladies have always said I can take anything I want if I can use it for the youth program... Here I was walking out with a HUGE stack of jeans in my arms, explaining myself to the check-out people that I'm really not stealing them! "It's for the kids!" They know I'm always up to some crazy plan, so they weren't too suspicious! (In fact, some of them are my "look-out" people as they price things... One person pulled out a cute pair of flannel pj's that had broncos, cowboy hats, etc on them for me to hang up!)

The lady who's making them will be dropping the completed ones off this afternoon. The sample ones she brought by turned out great!

I asked my local thrift store to save the unsaleable jeans for me. They gave me about 20 pairs the other day. Usually they just throw them out if they can't sell them. Actually, several of them are in conditions I or my kids would wear, but due to slight fraying at the bottom edge they won't sell them. This may be a source for those of you with little or no budget. I am going to cut strips from the legs to make the straps.
I explained that I was going to cut them up anyway so the condition didn't matter to me. (they couldn't believe that I wanted jeans even if they had holes or could not be sold for any other reason.)

Sorry for the delay..I think it was Alice's Old and New.  We're doing our VBS this week and made these today.  We had hole punched (using an awl and hammer) the upper right hand corner of the pockets, had the kids thread a 36" length of red hemp (to match the  Rahab story) and an OTC western charm through, tied in a knot.  We stapled laminated name tags to the front of the pockets and had the kids decorate with permanent markers.  Went very smoothly, kids had fun decorating.
