Many of you will remember Nathan who frequented the VBS boards during his teen years. He will finish his youth ministry degree in 2008.

He has asked me to post a prayer request for him and his mother.

His mother (in her late 40's) has been debilitated for several years with various health problems. Nathan has always been a very faithful son by taking good care of her since it is just the two of them. She is having some additional health issues and trouble finding someone to treat her. She has been referred to some specialists at a major hospital about 3 hours from their home. The soonest appointment Nate could get for her is 9 months away. She is suffering both physically and emotionally and needs to find quality care as well as some answers about her health sooner than that.

Please pray for strength, better health and that she finds expedited, high quality medical care that is appropriate for her.

He who works his land will have abundant food, but the one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.

Prayers are being sent his way.

He might try calling the referring doctor and see if they can see about a different specialist.  You would think that there would be another one in the same general area.  Even 5 hours away with an appointment in a month would be better.  What area of the country does he live in?

Offering prayers for Nathan and his Mother. God be with them and lead them to the best care so that his mom does not have to suffer for nine months waiting to see the doctor.

Lead them, guide them and love them Lord.

Their home in the south, Alabama, in relation to the proximity to higher quality facilities plus the type of insurance is much of the problem. Her condition requires more expertise than the local doctors can provide her. Nate has made many calls trying to find help/care for her. He is looking at some facilities in other states within a reasonable driving distance like you mentioned. The referring doc is not able to or unwilling to provide much assistance to them. I suggested changing doctors and that option has been explored without success so far.  I chatted with Nate about this very thing for a couple of hours last night and went over her medications with him. It is very frustrating for them to not be able to get hold of what they know is out there. He is a very young man having to make big decisions so he has a lot of weight on his shoulders.

I don't think their situation is all that uncommon especially for the poor. Here in the Detroit area we are overflowing with higher tech medical facilities, Universities and top notch health care providers within a 30 minute commute. But in many parts of the country that is not the case.

I am praying that they she finds the help and a capable health team that she so desperately needs.
